2 were torn down. Kip's was fine. The cams were protested on mine before the race. Everything else in my teardown was declared legal under the tech shed, the cams were confiscated and are being measured as part of the protest. They will be legal and should be returned to me with the official result in a couple of weeks I hope.

They are STILL out???? What're they doing...taking molds off 'em and recasting them to make sure you aren't "projecting" a laser image of a cam or something??

Really...how long can it take to measure a cam??

On a side note, did you hear about the Spec Miata cam protest where the cams were sent out for testing on the cam doctor, found to be "out of compliance" the decision appealed, someone from Mazda was brought in, and...........it was revealed that indeed they were way out of compliance....so far out that the car wouldn't run! That's what happens when you compare an exhaust cam to an intake and vice versa. Final result: "Your appeal is well founded and your appeal fee shall be returned."

Can you imagine????

You would think they would be done. I guess the whole "they are volunteers" thing may apply but I thought they were sent to the national office. BMW never has been very open about their cam specs, so I would assume that they had to buy a new set of cams to measure.

I had heard that apparently the Miatas have several different cams and someone from Mazda came in and said - "no here, this is probably the right factory cam for you to measure." I guess it is nice that they supply a hot cam, but kind of BS in my opinion.

Why does the ARRC website still list both cars as disqualified?

Because of the position of their weight. Check out some previous posts.

Ok folks, I've looked around for an hour. And I did searches before I posted. I've found a nice little weight discussion for E36s, but nothing for the 2002 ARRC disqualifications. Can someone please provide the thread?

Thanks
Matt

I'll save you the effort. The DQs were for improper placement of ballast. An interpretation was made based on the GCR that seemed legal most of the year. Apparently there was an update in FastTrack mid year that went un-noticed yet clarified the issue. The E36 that were DQ'd missed that clarification and were booted. That's pretty much it.

would have been DQ'd too had I not decided to blow my motor up on lap 12.
