I just recently purchased a '79 320i that I'm going to build to ITB specs. The car was in pretty good shape with almost no rust anywhere. The asking price of $350 was such that I couldn't pass it up.
I've been an autocrosser for 10 years and a sometimes flagger and this looked like a good way to get out on the track. If I decide that racing isn't what I want to do, the car will be a good autocross vehicle. I have some questions but I'll hold off until I have had a chance to go through the GCR. Any advice on setup and part suppliers will be appreciated. Look forward to talking with you all in the future.
Bill Wagner.

I don't know if you know of this website but I will pass it on anyway. www.bmw320i.com (http://www.bmw320i.com).

Great site that I frequent often, I too will be autoX a 82' 320i this summer, so far it is a fun car and hopefully if the autoX works out well it may be built to IT specs and wheel to wheeled.

Bavarianautosport.com is another site full of good parts.

Also check out http://www.3dtriad.com/e21/ fun to play with the paint set up.

also check out davidmcintyre.org. awesome 320i

Thanks, lilwillie. Another couple of places to look at things while I wait for the GCR to arrive. I did look at McIntyre's 320i. Looks like it's very well setup. I've been busy this last month gutting out the interior. Found some small amounts of surface rust inside, but nothing major yet. I expect that I'll find the same once I start taking off the exterior paint. Someone repainted the car with brushed on flat black. It certainly wasn't the prettiest thing I've ever seen.

I'm looking forward to the process of building this car as much as anything. It will probably not be as well developed with the best of everything initially, but I want to be sure that the basic platform is sound. I will probably strip it down as far as I can before I start putting things back together. I think I'm going to pull the engine/tranny/rear end out. These need work in any case and work on these can proceed while I deal with the suspension and the rest of the shell and cage. I'll be very pleased if I see some things start to go back together in early summer.

Cool, I am also contimplating running my in IT but for now I'll autoX it and see if the racegods speak to me to go further.

Yank the motor and trans, to dang easy not too. I have seen some other sites that show build ups of IT 320i's just can't find the pages right now.
