Is there a good chip for the early 318i? I am contemplating a 318 for an ITB and SpecE30 (new budget class a la Spec Miata)and am trying to finalize a platform decision.

All chips are the same in the BMW applications. The only performance gain you will see with a chip is an increase on the rev-limiter. That's my opinion based on results from my E30 325i. I had my car on the Dyno, and I tested 2 different ECUs, each one with and without a Conforti chip. The highest HP reading was with one of the CPUs running a stock chip. I've talked to 318 drivers who said that the chip was a waste of $$$.

Z Racer. I agree. I did the same thing with my E-30. I tried a Dinan "racing chip" It made 1 less HP than stock!! But did move the rev limit up. Not a huge fan of chips.
Cheers.
