We kind of already talked about it, but has anyone here decided on taking the plunge on 15 inch wheels?

Not me..
Negatives: No tires exist that won't hurt the gearing, extra weight, extra expense, and I don't need the extra room they would create anyway.

Advantages: More room for strut spacers.

I'm at 13X7, and 225/50/13 (Hoosiers), in an S car. I can fit 15s in the wheel well but have gear issues already anyway (too tall). Since I really can't go much wider, don't see much benefit to bigger wheels. But I'm new and don't fully understand the issue.

Looks like most of the 14/15" options are at least an Inch taller, so I can see your concerns...

They do have a 225-45-13 available (Hoosier) that is 1.1" shorter, however... http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif

Currently I am on 225/50/13s, but plans have been made to do some back to back testing next spring with 225/45/13s.

I have resisted the change for reasons of gearing and shift points at Lime Rock, but I wonder if it's hurting me to not get the car down as absolutely low as possible.

So a testing we will go!

I went to the 225/45R13 in 2000 or 2001 (whenever they came out) and changed from a 4.88 to the 4.44. It's a different tire than the current one, but at the time that I made the change, I found the 45 series to settle down more quickly on turn in, and feel less spongy midcorner. I used this setup at Waterford Hills, and was very competitive.

Funny, Jake - I was going to try putting in my 4.88 in for my next weekend at Limerock, mostly to see if I can get better gearing for the uphill. I seem to lose the most time there, saying 'giddyup' to the car. If you are going for a practice day, let me know - maybe we can test together.
