This is not a dumb question because I don't know the answer. The motor mounts on a 1985 RX-7 are made up of three pieces. The upper most piece which is a steel cup shape has two slots which are in the top & around into the side. The slots are located at approx 4 & 8 o-clock when looking from the left hand side of the car towards the right hand motor mount. Why are the slots included in the design ? My only thought is that they are dampers. Your thoughts ?

I seem to recall they are slots to facilitate engine removal and installation.

I hope yours aren't the ones from the run that measure 3.160" instead of 1.325" !!

Jake, if I am understanding you correctly your talking about the slots in the formed steel piece that connects to the motor & to the cross member piece at each side that the motor mounts sanwitch between. That piece has slots for motor removeal. I am talking about the slots in the round motor mount.

***measure 3.160" instead of 1.325"***

Please don't bring this sore subject up. It is finally to the point that the only time I think about the parts pedler/manufacture's $crew up is when I look at the strut support spacers. 0h & zero support from the parts pedler. "We'll work with ya". Ok, $hit we all make errors if we do anything. I'm tempted to have someone purchase another set of strut supports & measure to see if the parts pedler has corrected his error. Bet they measure 3.149 inches today.

Sorry David, I think the farm isn't fitting into the budget this quick after road america. Sure wish it did though. The new tow mobile likes to consume race entry fee cash for fuel.

I think I might not make it to the Farm either. Lost both my transmission and clutch cylinder at Gingerman. Got a push start and drove the whole race in 3rd gear with one hand on the wheel and one on the shift lever holding it in gear - it still popped out a dozen times. Diced it up pretty good for 12 laps with an E30 but didn't have anything for him out of the corners - he beat me by a length.
