I'm swapping in a different engine ('88 RX-7), so this would be the best time to deal with this. I'd like to remove the oil metering stuff (running premix). Can I do that, or do I have to leave it in place?

Thanks,
Marty

This question has come up a time or two. I can find nothing in the regs that says you can remove it. However, it doesn't say it has to work. http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

I have seen cars with the pump removed. I haven't heard of a protest on this item. The definitive answer is get an official ruling from SCCA in writing.

I run ITA and just left it on the engine. I also run premix.

Drive well.

What's the method of "adjusting" it (so it doesn't work)?

Sure it does: "Other than those specifically allowed by these rules, no component or part normally found on a stock example of a given vehicle may be disabled, altered, or removed..." (17.1.4.B, par. 1)

Unfortunately, the only way to get a truly difinitive answer is not only to protest and get an at-track ruling, but to have that finding appealed.

I stand corrected!!! http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/redface.gif However, the pumps do go bad. I have never checked mine to see if it is working. I just assume it is because it is a stock motor. Still, I premix. I run dino oil in the engine and Yamalube "R" as premix. Never had a problem.

Drive well.
