ITA/7 letters on cars

If running IT7, is it okay to use the letters ITA/7 on the car? Or does it have to say IT7?

Stupid question I know.

I would just put IT7 then leave enough space behind it to change the 7 into an A with tape if needed.

Last season I had the letters "ITA/R/7" on my car because I ran ITA events in CenDiv, ITR at Waterford Hills track, and IT7 at Road Atlanta. It was questioned by SCCA grid or tech a couple of times and I successfully appeased them at those times by covering the appropriate non-required letters with racer tape that matched the body color.
