Ok... dashboard has to stay, but the console can be removed. Now, where does the dashboard stop and the console begin in a 1st gen? I've seen, both in person and online, cars with the area of the console around the shifter retained, but also have seen the section that houses the radio and ash tray removed and running a bare shifter/tranny tunnel.

What's your interpretation of the rules?

I think it is ok to remove the entire console. That way it is easier to see if you competition still has a heater core http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif
I still have mine, but I trimmed off the bottom part that loops around the shifter. (It was always in the way when I needed to do a rapid transmission swap after practice and before qualifying)

Scott, my approach to what is dash & what is console would be to say to myself. If I purchased a new OEM dash what would I receive. I would receive a big chunk that would cover an area from the windshield all the way back to just in front of the split in front of the ash tray. IMHJ, the split in front of the ash tray is the begining of the console.

Ther is such a thing as an aftermarket split dash but then the rules are with reference to OEM parts.

I know that the console differs from year to year on the 7, but a good rule of thumb is: if you have to take a saw out to seperate the "console", it ain't the console!

You are free to use a holesaw on your dash to open areas for the tubes, but wholesale removal isn,t allowed or needed. On my car, I was able to pull out over two hundred pounds, and I still have my passenger seat. I need to run some fuel to make min weight.

My pount is that pushing the limits of the rules for weight savings isn't required, and will only hurt the resale value of the car. If the next guy wants it off, he's probably more than happy to do it himself!

That there is the root of the problem. Our 7 is almost 200 lbs overweight and we're trying to slim down. I have a few lbs to loose, we removed the spare (were afraid we were under) and we are going to install an operating fuel guage and run less than a full tank (which will get rid of the gas spilling out on left turns problem). So... we're still around 100 lbs over after all of that is done. We overbuilt the cage which is probibly where the weight is.

Anyway... I like your theory ddewhurst. If you cant get it like that OEM, then it's illegal.
