Where can I find a 4.88 ring and pinion gear set for '89 2nd gen? I would prefer not to mix components of different gens to do this.
I want to install this set with
a Torsen LSD.

The simple answer is you can't do what you want to do. That is, no one makes a 4.88 (or 5.12) gear set that is a bolt-in for a 2nd gen. The gear set originated with the 1st gen. cars, so you must have the pinion shaft lengthened and machined to make it work. The lowest bolt-in gear set for a 2nd gen is a 4.30.

That said, even Mazda Motorsports site recognizes that the gear set works well when machined, they list the 2nd gen. in their fitment description noting the necessary steps needed to make it work. I have also never heard of a failure, so if it's done correctly, you should have no worrys.

Chris,
Thanks for the reply.
Are you using a 4.88 or 5.12 ring set? Can you recommend the shop that made it for you? If yes, please post their contact number.
