I have an 84 rx7. It's been sitting for a while. Started right up after dumping fuel in the carb. There's a brand new fuel pump, rebuilt carb, new lines, religned tank. It doesn't seem to get fuel by looking into the top of the carb and manually working the throttle body. I've never had a rx7 b4. Any ideas?

is the fuel system working. pull the fuel line of the carb and turn the key on (not on start) and see if it is pumping fuel. If not try it at the fuel pump. By the way often the fuel pump will not prime the first time with just a gallon in the tank.

Are you using the stock wiring to power the pump???? Check to see if you're getting power to the pump. If not, the fuel pump relay is probibly shot, the wiring could be toast or fuse shot.

Also, if your running one of those cheap Purolator fuel pressure regulators, I guarantee you that it's part of the problem. I've seen two of them on RX7's and I've seen 2 RX7s that wouldn't run after installing them.

Thanks for replying, but it's brand new wiring fused separateley, it's a carter pump and holley reg. I've pulled the supply line and it's pumping lots o gas. I see fuel in the sight glass, half full, which I believe is correct. Could the reg be pumping too much gas? Do any of you have a recommend fuel pressure gauge that's accurate. I hear we need a 1-4 psi gauge. Thanks!

Hold on... does the car run? You just say that it doesn't look like its getting fuel.

It will fire up if you put a small amt of fuel directly in the carb. I think I must have a blockage that's preventing fuel from getting to the top side of the carb. I'm going to take the top off tonight and see if the floats are opening the valve.

Sounds like the accelerator pump/diaghram is not squirting when manually opened, take the squirt nozzle off and try, if no gas there, the problem could be in the passage leaving the pump or the passage from the rear float bowl uses a small steal ball as a one way check valve to flow gas to accel pump housing.

OHHHHHhhhhhh....

take the carb apart, carefully, especially if you don't have spare gaskets, and clean all the passages out. The "sitting for a while" comment is key. Likely the old grunge is doing it's thing. Also, you don't say, but if you've removed the choke and emissions gear, you will have a tough time getting it to run without the accel pump. It will be very cold blooded! Once warm it will be fine, though!

Also, if you've dumped raw fuel down it's throat, and it hasn't run in a while, beware of the no oil no compression blues. It will crank really easily, but be difficult to start. The solution is a small dose of ATF fluid down the carb as the engine is cranking, but don't do this with the door closed, or if you have skittish neighbors! The smoke should clear any and all mosquitos for months, though!

Need a little bit more detail in order to rectify the situation like does the engine stay running after being forced fed some fuel? does it run but stumbles when you work the throttle. This may not be very technical but when my Rx-7 sits for a couple of weeks without being started I have to force feed some fuel down the carb like your doing then I bang (fairly gently) the two fuel feeder lines going directly into the carb at about 1 to 4 inches from where the lines connect to the carb.The car always starts on the first or second try. Once it is running I can get in and start it for the two or three race days in a row without a problem. Not sure it will work but may be worth a try before taking apart the carb.

I'll try all of the above. During closer inspection last night (it was very dark) I did see gas coming out of the primary.

I have poured some atf down the intake and turned it over without spark for a minute or so in order to lube the apex seals.

It will start, stumbles quite a bit then dies. Maybe the plugs are fouled. Dare I install fresh plugs before the atf has had a chance to burn completely out?
