View Full Version : Real world cost of tranny rebuild?

Blew the tranny this weekend at Lime Rock. I have an extra box from a boneyard car. Have been told that it would be about a grand to "freshen it up". Is this realistic? I saw from an earlier post that most people seem to subscribe to just dropping them in as is. Any thoughts?

thanks

$250 to have it done by 7's only, you MUST replace the sliders.

Steve,
If you think the boneyard tranny might be OK,clean it up, throw in a new rear seal and put it in the car(one hour?). It's most likely to have some second gear synchro wear, doesn't matter. Fill it with Redline MTL to help smooth out the rough spots.Find a backup with a good history.

Thanks for the advice Brian,

Getting the tranny in and out is second naturew to us now, we;ve done it a few times on Nick's car. I already have a boneyard box at Autex and have them going through it. Looks like its in pretty good shape.

Thanks again.

Make sure you use the right Red Line gear oil. One of them is too slippery for manual transmissions....
