Anyone have any luck with an aluminum racecar radiator besides th MFR one? I've seen many made by reputable names that are cheaper, but I'm afraid they might require too much fabrication to install.

HOWE makes one that fits in the stock location. It's aluminum, and all that is needed is to weld side supports, drill for stock shroud holes, shim it if necessary as not to hit the front sway bar, and install it in place.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses. Any chance you have a part number for that? Or perhaps a URL for 7's only racing ? Or both? LOL http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif
Thanks Again

Does anyone know anyone using this MazdaComp radiator? Any good? Any better than 7s Only Racing Howe Radiator? 2 inches thick is rather thick. Don't know if it's a 3 row, but nonetheless it's pretty darn thick.

0000-01-7501 C RADIATOR, COMPETITION ALUMINUM 1 ALL 12A 1983-85 $339.00

Notes: Tall design. Heavy duty bolt in replacement for stock unit. For use in conjunction with stock water/oil cooler mounted under oil filter. Dimensions 19-1/2' high, 22-1/8' wide, 2' thick.

Do you think using this tall radiator and putting a REPU oil cooler in front of it would be enough to cool a 12a J-Bridge?

Thanks

Not knowing where you live. Here in So. Cal. racing in the heat of summer, the Howe Radiator and relocated stock oil cooler in front of the radiator, cooled just fine. We didn't use the '83-'85 oil/water cooler, but I don't think it would hurt to use bowf-'em.

Always allow for that "cool-down" lap prior to bringing it in, whether racing, practicing, or qualifying. Distilled water only in the radiator.

Eff it I am going to preach...

Preach on.

Big ass thick radiators are not all good... sometimes they are better, but if you add one of those bad boys to the front of your car they are heavier than the smaller 2 or 3 row that came out of the car.

"but they are aluminum you idiot, that means they are lighter" (I can here you say)

But no! They contain water... Much more water... water is very heavy...

So, when you buy one, buy one than is the same size and thickness, or as close to it as possible and buy an electric fan.

Preaching off.

Sure the big aluminum radiators hold more water. But at most I'd say 1 gallon more, and thats pushing it. 1gallon=6lbs, that's no big deal and it's worth it, since warped engine parts and rebuild cost a lot more....

lets see, (A) we go faster till we melt the engine then spend $2000 on a new motor and $300 on a bigger rad so it dosnt happen again or (B) we spend $300 on a bigger rad and finnish that race with our motor intact, hmmm decisions decisions.
by the way folks, I saw three motors cooked in three races last year with the stock width mazdacomp aluminum radiator.
zero with the 3" Howe.

Be careful when installing a non-factory radiator. The GCR says you can't changer the mounting structure so any "fabrication" may be construed as such.
