Stock fuel tank

I have 88-91 Civic. Has anyone tried to address the fuel pick up problems with the stock tank.I have to run at least a 3/8 tank or it will burb.

I plan on putting together a surge tank of some sort during the offseason. Something like these:

I too am getting sick of running 8gal when I only need three. Unfortunately, this might be cheaper and easier than my losing 40lbs this winter.
