Fitting the 225/50/14 on the CRX

I want to put the new tires on my car but the 225 is what is avalible. I`m concerned of the arm clearence. Has anybody made them work? Spacers?

I can get the 225's under the fronts but not on the rears. They will clear the rear trailing arm by 1/4 of an inch, but a hard turn will push the tire right into the arm. (experience). Use 205 on the rear.

Depends on what offset wheel you plan to use. I can fit the Kuhmo V700 225-50's front and rear.

Hey Dunkin. Are you saying you have 225 in front and 205 in rear. Or is it you gave up on 225 altogether? Differt size front to rear is strange but not imposible?

It's important to remember that not all tire brands measure up to be the same. A 225 Kumho will fit against the control arm on a 14x7" wheel with 38mm offset. The 225 Hoosier may not.

I put 225's on the front and 205's on the rear. I have run 205's all the way around and seem to have a longer stopping point. If you are rotating tires often this setup is not good

Duncan is this a problem with the rear end whipping around under braking?
Should the springs in the back be the same as I would on a regular set up.

Under sustained turning (IRP turn 1 or any carousel) the sidewalls flex far enough to rub the trailing arm on the rear suspension.
The only way to correct that would be to use a spacer to move the rim out, but then you run into the tire extended past the fender limit rule. You could possibly put so much camber into the suspension that the top of the tire appears to be under the fender limit, but that is extreme camber and a rules nerd may jump on that.

I use the same springs whether I use 225's or 205's in the rear. 400#

FWIW, a 205/55-14 R3S03 is about the same width as a 225/50-14 Toyo or Kumho. The R3S04's are wider yet.
