I am building an '88 DX for IT. Can we use pump gas (will it pass the fuel test) and if we are required to use race gas, what octane?

In IT both "pump" and "race" gas are permitted.

There are no "octane" requirements.

Nitromethane will show-up on the fuel test, however.

Thats not true. Not if you leave a $20 at the gas cap.
