View Full Version : disk to drum?

Been lurking for a couple years but now that I actually have a car I'm building I thought I might make a post. I did look in the search first but didn't come up with much.

I’m starting out building a ’91 CRX Si that had sustained some suspension damage from the previous owner. I’ve tracked down pretty much all the parts that are needed to get it rolling again before the big tear-down except for the passenger side rear trailing arm. (unless someone has one?)

I want to keep the project simple to ensure I actually get it on track but:

I believe I’ve heard that the drum brakes are “better” due to lower inertia and less rolling drag. Also drum rear suspensions are easier to come by so it might also be easier if I need to do the repair again.

Is this just totally off or is it not really that much of a difference so going drum or disk might be a choice of simplicity or cost?

Other comments?

The car will be receiving a complete new brake system so changing to the 88/89 master cylinder wouldn’t be a problem. Oh and yeah I have a GCR and have read it.

p.s. hi to Bernardo, Steve, Ken and the other So Cal guys.

I believe the hub assembly can be pressed out of the broken rear disc arm, and onto the drum arm, to allow you to run rear discs on that one

Hey Ian, Greg here from the autoX days. From my road racing, I found that constant adjustments were needed on my 94 DX rear drums.
