91 Si calipers

Hi all

Will a set of 91 front Si brake calipers fit, without any modifications onto the 89 Si calipers?

According to the Majestic site there are several different part numbers for the 90-91 cars and the 89 is different from them. Might I suggest you call a dealer parts department. It is possible that you would only need to add the mounting brackets. All this assumes that the knuckles were not reengineered.

Yes they are interchangable but the 89 civic brakes have the same size pads (but diff. shape)as the 91 Si pads. So why do it?
The 89 civic brakes have a greater pad compound assortment. Carbotech , Hawk, Porterfeild,PFC......
If you do it, you dont need to change the master, They are the same size on both cars for fronts.

I assumed we were talking about a CRX since it didn't say civic. Crx 90-91 front caliper larger than 88-89. master cyl on 90-91 is 7/8" 88-89 is 13/16" .

yes they will fit with no mods...you will need the mounting brackets from 90-91 calipers as they are different. pads are also a different shape for 90-91 than they are for 88-89

Ya you might be rite on that one ,but again, why would you want to do that swap if its working the way it is ? Harder to get pads for the 91 Si Calipers, Isnt it?

I use the 1989 Civic DX Fronts on my 1985 Civic with a prelude Master cylinder. But I did this cause they are a larger Vented brake over the stock 1985 brakes, and no its not a 'IT' car its a 'GT' car.

Well, I have 2 reasons for doing the switch. First, which I might be wrong about, but don't the 91 front calipers use larger rotors. And second, I'm upgrading the to the rear disks, and for all you rule nerds, I need the correct calipers on the front.

BTW, it is 2 gen ita crx.

A. rotor size is the same.
B. first i dont consider changing the rears necessitates changing the front. secondly, theres not enough performance difference to make the change. on paper, having drums in the rear is actually lighter. youre only saving on maintenence going to discs.

I must agree with Tyson. The rule does not require that you do both ends of the car. To completely redo the rear is not cost effective IMO.

It's worth nothing in the tech shed but Dr. NERD thinks that a good case can be made that "front brakes" are a distinct "assembly" from "rear brakes."

if you are doing the rear disks you will need to update your master cylinder. the 88-89 will not push enough fluid thru to make them work properly. get a 7/8 master and you will be all set. good luck
