Why is there such a disparity in cost between a OEM final drive and countershaft and the 4.73 aftermarket final drive and countershaft? ('90 CRX btw) Granted the stock ones are mass produced but sheesh. An OEM final is $141 and the countershaft is $227 for a total of $368. OPM sells the 4.73 final for $950?!? I am assuming thats for the final AND shaft.

My guess is there are no aftermarket gears around and OPM is having one custom cut for you. I have bought custom gears and that is not a bad price.

yeh, consider yourself lucky. The alternate F/D for my car costs $1600 to have custom machined, and there is no interchangability between my car and any other Honda/Acura, so that route or my stock F/D is my only choice.

I also sell virtually the same R&P at my website, and the problem is that there is a limited market for the ratio, and they are custom made not mass produced. Therefore it's a manufacturer's market (supply/demand etc.). There isn't any real profit in the piece, and it's primarly being resold to fill a need by our clients.

Be happy. When I saw the OPM $950 price the other day, I thought it was a great bargain that the price had gone down. I have paid $1,250 each for three different CRX final drives from Houseman (4.71 I think. At $1,250, you had to bite the bullet but it was worth it. With a nearly 25% decrease, it makes the decision much easier I think.
