roll cage install on '91 crx si...future ita car...

okay, i need some information from the experts.... we hit a roadblock on the main hoop mounting point on the driver's side. the fuel filler line crosses the area where we are attempting to install the hoop. we are attempting to mount the tube directly behind the driver's seat on the floor area that steps up (where the plastic "luggage compartment" used to be). with this said, has anyone had this problem? is it the "norm" to mount that cage point in this area? do we re-route the fuel filler hose?

on mine we ran the lower bar on the lower section of that step behind the seat. you shouldn't have any problems with the seat mounting. this does 2 things...a lower center of gravity and makes room for the metal enclosure for the fuel lines that are required on cars such as the CRX. hope this helps..

As the guy in the pictures, but not the owner, I can tell you there is 107 feet of tubing in that cage. That's about 160 pounds, plus mounting plates. Light is relative. Marc knew he'd be under weight.

(My own car now has about 80 feet of tubing, I couldn't afford the weight hit of more tubes.)

And the car is for sale. (That is, unless it very recently sold) Should still be in the classifieds section.

How tall are you? It looks like your design may work for me..... I'm 6'4" and tip the scales at 270.....SO I NEED ROOM!!!! Is that a 10 degree seat that you installed?

I'm almost 6'3'', 245lbs and that's the reason I didn't buy an already built car. If you notice where the halo connects to the main hoop is lower than the typical. What this does is give you more head room since it places the halo bar away from your head. Also, because of this I had them put a roof bar because the halo being lower (at the main hoop).

As far as the seat being mounted, it's almost level but it's on sliders right now. I'm remounting the seat without the sliders so it's closer to the ground.

My cage is pretty much the same from the main hoop back, although I left out the "strut bar", for, beleive it or not, cargo capacity. That's another thread http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

Richy's pictures give you a great example to work from, especially the main hoop mounting points,but there are few things to consider.

I do beleive the mounting pads for the bars can be bigger, an can be better tied in to the structure of the car.

The Roof bar can be placed as a diagonal, from the passenger side at the rear to the drivers side at the front.

The door bars are exactly what you need. I would have done the same, if I didn't need to keep the roll up window and passenger access.

The forward bars could go through the dash. This is a very time consuming process, though, and likely would have added %25 percent to the cost of richy's cage. Same goes for bigger mounting pads, etc. All this work is expremely time intensive. I did mine myself, so money was not a issue, my time is free.

I removed the filler tube for welding, but it cleared the filler tube no problem when I went to reinstall it.

On another note.... Has anyone had any experience with UltrShield products. I was looking at them for a custom seat. Do they produce quality equipment?
