Would someone with a 88-89 CRX Si be so kind as to provide me with their cam specs per the shop manual? I'm in a real bind and I need to compare them to the specs in my '90's shop manual. There's been a lot of conjecture about the difference in the cams between the '88-'89 and '90-'91 but I need solid numerical evidence. I called Honda and their response was..."uh well the part numbers are different." Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanx.

The cam lobe profiles are all the same, you will not find different specs in any manual or parts catalogue. The difference is in the location of the keyway for the cam gear. The 88's centerling is closer to the crank's centerline as it uses the same as the previous 1.5l motor. after 88 honda moved the centerline off a bit.

If this is the case why is it that people say that one of the reasons for the 108hp in the '90 vs 105hp in the 88-89 is due to different ecu and a different cam? Could it be that no one actually investigated this? Thanx for your help Dave!

The cams are different. they have a different centerline which effects cam timing which effects dynamic Compression & cylinder pressures, which effects power output...+/- 3 peak hp differences can easily be gained or lost by 1 degree of cam timing and/or minor ecu map changes.

Based on your original reply, if Honda moved the centerline off in both '89 and '90, but the hp in '89 is 105 and 108 in the '90 the change would have to have occured in the ecu. Thanx for your help Dave!
