2.0l ABA, 8v 020 transmission. Who's clutch do you guys recommend for racing?

My current 4puck that I have is toast. It lasted for 6 years in the car. The original owner doesn't remember where he got it from - so I have to start the process again looking for a good clutch. Suggestions?

Kennedy 4 puck should be fine, depending on your driving style. If you really slam the shifts go with something that has springs to absorb some shock.

I used a 16v pressure plate and one of these...

From www.bildon.com (http://www.bildon.com)

I oiled it down really badly one day, with a leaking seal and it started to slip. Not being able to fix the seal at the track, I just hosed brake cleaner down the hole after each session - and before I drove home. We fixed the seal, squirted more solvent on the clutch, and have run an additional 17 hours on it with no problem.

Interestingly, the soaking took a little bit of the initial bite or harshness out of the pedal and it feels just that little bit more forgiving than it did.

Kennedy... that's the one. I think that's the manufacturer of my current 4-puck clutch. Wonderful piece. Lasted for 6 seasons. It wasn't the puck material either, the springs got loose and finally it munched itself. So it's time for a new one. Ya... I oiled my clutch a few times, once from an engine oil leak, once from and main seal, just hosed it off with brake cleaner, and it just kept on going.

The Blidon one looks EXACTLY like an ACT clutch - even the descriptions are the same on both websites http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/wink.gif

Thanks.

I had really good luck w/ a KFP 4-puck that I got from BSI. Was definately like an on/off switch though.

Shhhh!! ACT IS KEP Shhhh!! http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/wink.gif

After 14 years of ground up experience in clutch manufacturing, assembly and engineering at Kennedy Engineered Products (KEP), Dirk Starksen learned what clutches and engine adapters were all about. In the booming days of the air cooled VW, there was only one clutch to buy for your California Street Look bug, sand rail, off-road car, drag car, or kit car and KEP was the place to get it. In 1994, Dirk felt the time was right to use this knowledge to impact the rest of the aftermarket performance industry with a product that would hold the power many tuners were getting out of their cars. With the help of KEP, Dirk founded Advanced Clutch Technology, Inc.

Okay. KEP/ACT is the way to go. I'm looking at the solid un-sprung disk. Now the question is 4 or 6 puck. I have 3 different drivers in the car, looking for the best solution to driver differences - from the in car, some are smoother (aka slip the clutch more), others are a little more, how do you say, quick/harsh on their shifts and clutch action.

4 or 6?

Thanks for the input guys.

Not trying to knock another company in this public forum, but we had two ACT units, the clutch was fine the pressure plate assembly left a very bad taste. VW suppliers like bsi or bildon sell complete sets, I would not recommend ACT as a clutch unit. PS we drive a 83GTI, 2 drivers 10 events a year in ITB.
