The A3 Golf and "Useless Parts"

I've been thinking about this issue and got to wondering what the actual minimum feature list for this generation of Golf is.

What did the stripper-est of the stripper Golfs (the Citi?) come with? Or without?

Rear wiper?

Anti-theft system?

What?

As much as it pains me to say it, you'd probably be better to ask VW Whoretex (VW Vortex) that question. The site seems to be filled with people who live and breathe nothing but Volkswagesn (to a fault).

The Golf City is the stripper and did not have a rear wiper/washer. The hole gets filled with a rubber plug. I have not been able to confirm the lack of anti-theft alarm and vacuum locking doo-hickies.

The VWV crowd was quick to point out my obvious lame-o confusion of the City and the Citi - which is the A1 body car that's still being sold new in South Africa. Look what you learn.

I was hoping that someone on Whoretex had coveted an A3 Sales Brochure and could read off the list of features on the City. It appears that I was wrong - not like that's a first...

I researched this several years ago and I do know ( remember ) that: 1. no rear wiper, there is a VW part # for the plug. 2. no radio ( a radio was optional, not that it matters for IT but VW has a nice blank plate for the radio hole ) 3. DID have power steering http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/frown.gif 4. did not have keyless entry but I dont know if that effects the alarm and vac locks. 5. no sunroof 6. did not have the thick sound pad behind the dash on the firewall.... I have VW dealer friends who are checking their resources for ?? about alarm and vac locks.

I ordered my City hatch wiper hole plug the other day and will post the PN when I've confirmed that it works.

I cling to the little successes sometimes.
