18K for all the goodies, ditch the shocks and you have a pretty neat ITE car...

Cheers,

I don't even think you need to ditch the shocks. If it's legal for the series it is built for, it should be legal for ITE - with the exception of DOT tires.

Having said that, ITE rules differ from Region to Region. In NER, this car would be legal.

That's been for sale for something like a year now.

Kids - don't try this at home! Building an orphan race car is bad for your finanacial health!

Got some slick stuff, that's for sure. Wasn't competitive in WCT (none of the VW's were), and most likely won't be competitive in ITE (can you say 996 Twin Turbo?). Too bad it's so far removed from IT/T. Would probably fit real nice in the D-Prod class though.

I know this car very well, one of the guys from Matrix built it about 2-3 years ago. Good car, nicely done but the cage is through to the strut towers and it is chrom-moly. The shocks are remote res. and have proven to be very tempermental. It sounds soo cool comming out of turn 12 at PIR as do most VR6 engines in race tune. It doesn't have much devolpment time on it and hasn't run a race in a very long time. But is a good looking car never the less.

>> none of the VW's were

The Hagestad Jetta was one of the best cars in the field but unfortunately until Schrantz got to drive, it never had a decent pilot.

Hagestad complained it was uncompetitive at a Mid-Ohio test. Mitch Wright got in the car and immediately went 2 seconds faster. The overhead quote was something like "learn to drive" http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/rolleyes.gif

When Schrantz got it at Sebring he was leading the field. (Finished 4th) And then they started messing with it and screwed the electronics all up. Spent the rest of the season blowing up engines... then they quit the game.

The (US built) cars are for sale now for $28K. We were in talks with them to buy one until VW decided it wasn't going to support a WC effort this year.

Looks like VW will be coming with new 2L FSI turbo car for '06 though.

We need to get the A4 Jetta VR6 legal in ITS with about 2500 lb weight, the WC Jettas looked extra cool on track !

The A4 2L in ITB should be an easy "sell" and the VR6 in ITS too. The A3 cars are already there. Why not?

If anyone wants to starts writing letters I'll submit the paperwork for the '99.5-00 A4 cars.

Bill,

I had forgotten about Schrantz's run at Sebring. I've heard that Len Hunt is pushing for a WC team for '06. They were talking about '05, but it's probably not going to happen.

As far as the A4 Golf/Jetta 2.0 in ITB, it should actually be an easy sell for ITC, as the NB has paved the way. I think the A4 VR6 cars should be in ITA. Don't know how 2500# jives w/ the process. Regardless, the A2 2.0 16v cars should go to ITA.

I talked with Passen at PRI about it. Bymaster and he were going to the UK soon after to talk with Cosworth Tech. about the FSI program. According to him, '05 is dead.

>>the NB has paved the way.
True

>>I think the A4 VR6 cars should be in ITA. Don't know how 2500# jives

That would give it a better p/w ratio than an ITS Corrado. I think it's an ITS car.

> the A2 2.0 16v cars should go to ITA.

2L 16v cars should have their own class. Right Kirk? http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif

The result of recent decisions is that they are going to own A before long - so they will!

While we are on the topic... who is the current SCCA Club Comp. rep that I should contact to "bully" about moving new cars into these classes?

I used to talk to Aaron Colwell, but I think he moved on to Pro Racing???

My bad, I had meant to say that the A4 VR6 cars were ITS cars. I was already composing the sentence about the 2.0 16v cars.

Kirk,

Do you have info about the 2.0 16v cars going to ITA?

I did some poking around for fun and the MkIV (1999) 2.0 Golf GLS weighs in at about 200# more in stock form, than does the MkIII 2.0 GTI (1998).

I guess I misunderstood what you meant here then.

/edit/ Never mind, I see that you were responding to Bill's comment about 2.0 16v cars having their own class.

BTW, I agree w/ you.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I asked about this when I initially requested the 1.7 cars go to ITC. IIRC, it was never even addressed, or was given the 'too fast for the class' answer. Guess I need to go through the old FasTracks

I'm also going through the motions to get this done as we have an A4 chassis that's not built yet.

I'll post any SCCA responses I get here.
