Interesting trivia - I took some 6x14" 4x100 wheels to the PO and weighed them on the scale there:

7-spoke "Orlandos" - 16lb. 4oz.
5-spoke "5 Stars" - 16lb. 9oz.

That's about 1/3 pound difference, and not in the direction that I would have guessed.

Kirk
What did the people at the PO(I assume this is the U.S. Post Office) think of this?

I am drawing a picture in my mind of Kirk pulling up to the PO, unloading wheels out of the trunk, carrying them in and weighing each one several times, and carrying them back out to the car.

Kirk, buddy, I think the silly season is getting to you. http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif

I discovered yesterday that the PO near my new office has a self-serve shipping kiosk, with a digital scale. I just put the wheels in garbage bags to protect the innocent, walked in, plunked them down, made my notes, and headed back out the door.

EDIT - my next test will be to see how much heavier the current wider 225s are than the 205s that I ran in SSC trim. http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

Hey Kirk, any chance of weighing an old A1 'snowflake'?

Kirk,
Don't forget to weigh an empty shopping bag so you can subtract those ounces. Did you fill the bag with nitrogen first? http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif

I'll ask Cameron if they have one in the shop when I see him next week.

So much for Homeland Security if a shady character like Kirk can walk into a federal building with "trashbags" ! HA! Kirk, I'm surprised too. Especially since I went out of my way to get another set of the five spoke wheels. I guess I was blinded by form rather than function because I really don't like the look of the orlando wheels. How's the ECU work coming? I'm planning on going to VIR in February for the NASA enduro... will I see you there? JOe

OOPS. Methodological blunder. I thought I took the wheels that had the weights stripped off but I goofed and took the 5-star that had 4.75 oz. of lead attached. Numbers above have been amended.

Thoughts on the ECU question have been posted in that strand.

Kirk, Oddly enough all my OE 15" VR6 wheels weigh about 16 lbs... that is decent for a OE road wheel these days. I have seen 22 lb 15" OE wheels.....
