Hey guys, need some diagnostic help. my '87 ITA Jetta won't start and I have a prospective buyer coming to look at it tomorrow. Ran it last at a DE a few months ago, wouldn't start Sunday morning.
It fires immediately, runs a couple of seconds and dies. Cold start valve works, sprays a nice pattern. Pulled #1 injector and no fuel sprays when i start it. Not a drop.
Got plenty of hot spark. Apparently has plenty of fuel pressure, judging by the cold start valve.
So what would fail and keep the main injectors from supplying fuel?

Check the fuse on the fuel pump. This is what happened to me at the last event.

It would crank and "fire" for a bit, then die. The cold start circuit is different than the fuel pump circuit.

Tim
Someone else suggested that from another source. I hope I'm that lucky!

Thanks

Well, that wasn't it. All the fuses were good. I've also jumpered the FP relay and no change in results.

Rex, with the ignition on, can you hear the fuel pump "whining" ?

Also, check the fuel filter. Break one of the fittings to see if there is pressure there. No wait, you already said the the cold start valve is working, but none of the injectors are.

Check the FP regulator. I'm not sure how much voltage it needs, but try to see if you get any voltage to it.

Rex,

I could get drawn into the let's try this thing but I won't! Your close to AZ so I have a few questions. Send us pictures please, and a list of things done to the car. The right person won't care if it runs or not.
