Raymond,
Thanks for the kind words. Yes we are tentatively planning to run the ARRC. Not so much a championship run as a "lets go have fun" event. We don't expect our new car to really be in the hunt this year.
Intial testing has proved that the car in ITS trim is MUCH different than the SSA Champion that it once was. There is no push...that's right boys and girls..,.. that huge VR6 hanging way out in front of the axle has been tamed. http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif
With the help of the guys at VW Motorsport we took their setup for a VR6 Beetle Cup car and modified it a bit for this car. Surprisingly the car is very neutral. In some early testing days we did the car actually exhibited quite a bit of oversteer in off-throttle and part throttle situations. We're running very little camber in the rear and currently generating little heat in the rear tires either...so this oversteer is not a permanent "feature".
The 2.8L VR6 engine has a silky smooth, linear power band. Sounding like a little Ferrari it pulls hard from 3000 all the way to the now unlimited, self imposed "redline" of about 7500 RPM.
We'll continue to test the car locally at BeaveRun until we feel that it's ready to run at least within a second per lap of the leaders. Currently we are about 3 seconds off the pace of Mr. Cefalo's (RX7) track record from a few weeks back. But there is a lot to do still and we are confident that in October the car will be ready to run mid to front pack, and by the time the ARRC is here it may be able to give the fastest ITS boys another car to watch for in 2005.
