I bought a Kirkey intermediate seat for use in my ITB car. I was wondering how you guys got around the bulbous old mounting area to mount a race seat. Any advice will be welcome!!

Are you talking about the "tab" where the stock front slider goes through?
I know some that have cut it off, while leaving the rest of the cross-member.
I actually left it in, and partially put it in where the anti-submarine hole for seat goes.
Not sure how that would effect your "alignment"

If you're talking about the cross-member that connects the rocker panel to the center tunnel, I wouldn't hack that out unless you're going to replace it with something structural.
If you want the seat to be adjustable, you can strip a stock seat-base and attack it with a hacksaw (I'm high-tech here, and used a Porta-Band), then weld up some square tubing to what remains of the base and tag on some 'ears' to attach to the seat. Voilá ! Adjustable Kirkey Intermediate seat in a VW !

I dont really care if its adjustable (though that is a good idea) I guess if i dont do that, i have to fabricate a mount to go around the cross member...
thanks for the help!
