Fuel Pump Relay

Can the fuel pump relay going bad on an A2 GTI (other than just not getting fuel)keep the engine from running? It wont start even when I jump the relay.

If you jump it, it should run (the fuel pump, that is).

Can you hear the pump running when you jump the big pins on the relay ? If you're not sure, open the gas cap and you should be able to hear it thru the filler (put out the cigar first...).

A bad fuel pump relay, if jumped, shouldn't keep the car from running. Are you sure it's the fuel pump relay, and not one of the other relays?
