I need help on some basic questions.
1) Does any one know why the brake specification in the GCR for Golf and Jetta are 244 mm and not 239 mm front and 244 rear and not 226 rear.
2) I have a VW parts catalogue that specifies the above numbers. F 239 mm R 226 mm
3) I have an 89 Jetta Carat 8v German built. The car has 258mm front brakes, original car with no modifications can this be correct brake size?
4) If any information can be presented, please forward official VW documents to Gary Semerdjian at [email protected]

The rear spec is in error. All VW 4-lug rear disks were 8.9". There was an increase in the rear drum size in the early '90s.

The front spec (10.1") is correct for all 89.5-up Jetta GLI 2.0L 16Vs, and may also be correct for some 89.5 1.8L 16Vs. The mid-year change from 1.8L to 2.0L did not correspond exactly with the mid-year change from 9.4" to 10.1" front brakes, but I forgot which came first.

The 2-Dr Wolfsburg cars were nearly one-offs, and at times seemed to have come with anything in the parts bins for that or the previous or following years of the other models, FWIW.
