O.k. So we've had this discussion about right turn cut outs. Now I have an 84 Rocco and the 85 changed to a two pump set-up. Can I easily convert my 84 to 85 & up spec? Is there any advantage / disadvantage in doing this? Are the tanks the same other than the in tank pump? Suggestions???

John,

Check the Bentley manual, but I don't see why you couldn't update to the '85 system.

The only potential problem I know of is that Sciroccos with the full size spare tire 1982-early 1984 have a slightly smaller gas tank than later ones 1984.5-1987 with the space saver. This also corresponds to the switch from one pump to two. If my assumptions are correct the later tank will not fit the early car because the spare tire well is in the way. Personally, I have never had a fuel starvation issue with my 1983 Scirocco (yet http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif ) but I also always start every race with a full tank to help make weight.
Off topic: has anyone ever wondered why the Sciroccos have to weigh 2270# while the Rabbits/GTIs only have to weigh 2180#

Nico,

The Scirocco does have an aerodynamic advantage over the Rabbit. Is it worth 90#? I don't know, probably not.
