I know the comp board is working on the specs for the VR6 GTI, anybody building one or running a Jetta / Corrado VR6...

Thats a lot of $$$ building one of those....
It would be a sweet machine except for ploughing around the track.

Maybe I should have built my VR into a track machine instead of the 2dr golf : )

Brian Blizzard ran a VR6 Jetta last year in the NEDiv. He's gone to a Corrado this year.

Any idea how much hp a VR6 can leagally make?

Applying the standard 15% improvement usually available with IT machining and bolt ons and the legal ECU mods should net you about 207HP at the flywheel.

Blizzard's Corrado is REAL nice. He is in a picture on our websites main page.

I THINK he took the motor out of his Jetta and put it in the Corrado - it's a quick car. He did real well this weekend at Lime Rock - a track he knows well.

With air intake mods, an exhaust (w/ cat) a chip, and no cam or other porting, my car made an estimated 200hp at the crank on a dyno, ~170hp at the wheels. I'm sure removing emissions stuff, throttle-body coolant hookup, porting and polishing, the .5 bump in compression, race gas, and a hot chip, you could get 210hp or more.

If you run a 24v vr6 in the car, you can get about 230bhp without raising displacement. ON the 12v vr6, its making 230Whp on a high compression 3.1 setup, still with decent engine life.

Trac Racing ran a couple VR6's in world challenge, but the main problem is thier weight, and the 16v 2.0's that are not being run make enough power and are light.

VR6 is a great engine, but its size/weight is a problem that would need to be overcome. There is an Ex-WcT gti vr6 for sale now for $20K, and they can probably drop a 185whp vr6 int for $7500 or so.

I am not sure how much thye would limit th VR6, but you can run a 2.9L, with 288 cams, headwork, custom intake manifolds, headers back, custom ecu, and you are a solid 200whp there.

BTW, Bill..what ever happened to the one Bildon was building? After watching your A2 Digifont cars run so well, I was *really* hoping you'd go eat up a few 2nd Gen RX-7s..

..I suppose my failure to adress the E36 question should `show the evidence' about how many years I've pondered the potential of a VR6 C..especially since my guys have parted out several of them (all the time with tears in our eyes over being too `broke' to even try it! <bfg>).

Life got in the way http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif ...but expect to see it around July...it will not race frequently and will most likely be for sale at the end of the year if anyone wants to go ITS in a VW.

I also have a note into the Comp Board requesting a clarification on the min weight. The GCR has the Corrado listed about 300 pounds lower than the 2002 version. No notice came out about a 'correction' etc...I think it was a misprint.

Those motors make the best noise at full tilt.

It's half the reason I'm building the Corrado. It sounds like a little Ferrari!

Where can I get more info on Blizzard's Corrado? I'm interested to see what suspension setup he is running(ride height, spring rates, shock valving)?

He may float on this board...

He will be at Lime Rock this weekend I am sure.
