Trying to find the 1.6 "go-nogo" head dimension. GCR states .025 under service limit, my manual does not quote such limit. I am guessing that the dimension is measured from the block/head surface to valve cover rail/flange. Am I correct, and what is the dimension? Thank you.

The Bentley manual I have lists a minimum thickness for the 1.6/1.7 head of 5.219 in. Thus you can go to 5.194 in.

I realize I don't know anything about VW's however...the rules state a maximum of 0.025" but not to exceed 0.5 of a compression point.

On some cars, you can't take the full amount off the head without exceeding the C/R limit.

Not knowing anything about VW's and their non-interference head, this may not be an issue.
