A2 Steering Question

I would like to remove my power steering rack and add a manual unit in the near future. In the meantime I have been running the car without the power steering belt and actually like the steering/handling of the car. Is it possible to run the car like this for a week-end race or would the steering rack fail? Would this pass tech?

I've done the same thing with mine and it ran fine. The rack will have power steering fluid in it at all times acting as lubricant.
