I gave away my '01 GCR and haven't received the '02 yet. Can anyone tell me whether a '95 GTI VR6 is classified in ITS? If so, how does the min weight compare to the Corrado?

Thanks http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

The VR6 GTI is not classified, but the '94 -
'96 VR6 Jetta is. Weight is 2980# compared to 2850# for the VR6 Corrado.

What's the status of Suloff's ITS Corrado?

It was in storage over the winter.

It's waiting until we finish ITB car #2.

I'm going to try to get the 95-97 GTI classed in ITS and I want to do it right the FIRST time. Obviously, weight is very important. The GTI is listed at 2750 lbs in last year's SSB (including SS mandatory A/C AND sunroof). For comparison, does anyone know what the Showroom Stock weight was for the Corrado before it moved to ITS (that is, did anyone save a 1993-1999 SS Specs book)?

The official Corrado SLC curb weight that VWoA registered with the EPA for model years 1992, 1993 and 1994 is 2,808 lbs.

Keep in mind that official Mfr. curb weights supplied to the EPA (defined as "vehicle full of all operating fluids - minus driver and load) include the weight of any optional equipment that represents more than a projected 33% ordering rate. I can't be sure, but it looks like the SLC's sunroof option may be the culprit here.

Presently the Corrado's weight per GCR ITS rules should weigh 2850 lb. with driver. Interestingly, if the SCCA allows addn'l 180 lbs. for a driver something's really screwy here, as in principle the SCCA min. weight should be heavier.

However as it stands the SCCA wants us to run the Corrado in ITS weighing more than it did as a street car. Gary Semerdjian in California has found this weight impossible to acheive even though he has 100 lbs of ballast, a larger battery, a spare tire, extra tubing, full dash, full door panels, full gas tank, etc....

I do not have an old GCR anymore but this info above should give you an idea of how important it is to get an SCCA official involved in the process early on. Make sure you get everything documented including the initial weight (unmodified) and weigh components as they come off while each step of the way having your SCCA regional comp chair validate the results.

Good luck and keep us posted as this classing process has been quite flawed in the past.

Ok, who's going to win the pool as to when I was going to post on this topic????

Bill, remind me to send you a check for being such a good straight man!!! http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif

At least in the case of the Corrado, it's only 42#. In the case of the ITB Rabbit GTI, it's 169#! http://Forums.ImprovedTouring.com/it/eek.gif (2180 - 2011 = 169). What's even funnier is that the spec weight for an ITA Golf 16v is 2220# and the spec weight for the ITB Golf 8v is 2280#. Anyone want to bet which one had a higher curb weight???

Requests for weight changes continually get met w/ "weight is correct as specified" yet according to the latest FasTrack, the CB is 'gathering data' to see if the 240 series Volvos should be spec'd to weigh the same as the 140 series Volvos. I can't believe they're even entertaining this. They're two different cars for Pete's sake! They have the ITB Rabbit GTI 180# heavier than a Rabbit of the same year w/ a 1.7! No competition adjustments my ass!!!

But, the IT AdHoc committee is investigating the 'percieved discrepencies' between IT weights and mfg. weights. We'll see where this goes!
