Who do you guys tie the main hoop to the rear shock towers? The reason I ask is because currently I have an Autopower cage and it mounts low and far away from the shock bushing. I want to make new bars that tie into the shock mounting point so I can put in a cross brace. That area seems very complex (no flat surfaces) and hard to tie into. Pictures would be great.

QB--Can't help you with pics, but you need to "wrap" the plate around the top part of the tower. Plates do not have to be "Flat".

Typically you would get a piece of pipe (or some solid round surface) and bend the plate around it with heat or brute force and then weld the resulting plate to the vehicle

Not sure if these would be legal for IT, but I've heard of lot's of rally guys using stuff like this:

Hey Philip, got more pics of that car?
Looks like a well thought out cage.

Thanks All! Tim, do you think Phillip's post would be legal in IT. My gut says no.

16v, Thanks so much. That's what I was looking for. The only diff for me is that my car had a moonroof so now everything needs to be lifted up. Currently I have spacers but I want to just extend the tubing down to base plates that are very similar to what you posted.

I'd have to read up a bit to be sure. I'm thinking yes, but a closer read of the GCR is needed.

Phillip's option may be legal (not sure if it would constitute a modified pickup point or not). However, it certainly wouldn't be my first choice from a strength perspective. I got to believe that a 100 sq. in. plate that's wrapped around the strut tower (and possibly on the floor as well) would be considerably stronger than the pictured design. Not to mention that it provides a lot more area to attach additional tubes to.

I think the only rule that could really be applied is that a mounting plate can be no less than 2" on a side.
Some tech folks might say the "bottom" side of a tube is way less than 2". But I think the later verbage about multi-angled plates, and measuring things in a flat plane, would cover this setup, assuming it's more than 2" tall.
Any other opinions? Anyone think it's illegal?
(Just talking legalities, not strengths or preferences)

Sorry for the long time getting back to everyone. The car is not mine. Those are just some pictures I had collected while looking at other people's cages. I have a small collection of rollcage pictures & threw all the ones I could easily find up on a page, so you guys could check them out.

I'm sure that lot's of the stuff isn't IT legal, but you might find it interesting anyways.
