Sunroof removal

So what have you guys done with your sunroofs? Did you cut it all out and then fill the hole with a sheet of metal or did you just leave it alone? How much weight savings is there? I've heard about 30#.

On the A2 Golfs, removing the sunroof "unit" gives you a LOT more room for installing the cage, which gives you more head room in the end. A new roof from an auto body parts place is about $130 or so (without the sunroof). I personally removed the entire unit and then bent the lips on the roof out so I could weld the original sunroof itself back into place. Fill with weld, then some fiberglass, sand, and you are good to go. Take you time, i screwed mine up by trying to rush, so I have to use more fiberglass than needed.
