View Full Version : New take on old in-car video

Since it's still Frikkin' snowing up here in Motor City (a fact which somehow did not stop some cabin-fever-crazed individuals from running a National this weekend at Gingerman), I'll put out a recent re-hash of some good vid clips from last year.
http://www.vaughanscott.com/videos.htm

The new wrinkle is the use of PC software called TrackVision (www.trackvision.net) to overlay the data from my AIM data acq. system onto the in-car video. My coworkers (all gearheads too) have commented that all it needs is a Fox logo in the upper corner and a voice-over from DW yelling "Boogity boogity boogity!!!" http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/wink.gif

Apologies that some of this is actually NASA/GTS, not IT, but without further ado, direct links to the clips (Right-click Save As, as usual):

(Waterford Hills ITS/ITA race, 2 whole laps, 16Mb, the best vid quality of the 3)

(Mid-O GTS Blitz race start, 1st lap, 11.8Mb)
http://www.vaughanscott.com/videos/Mid_O_0..._full_hires.wmv (http://www.vaughanscott.com/videos/Mid_O_0822/SunBlitz2005Lap3_full_hires.wmv)
(Mid-O GTS Blitz, one clean lap around, 9.5Mb)

Yeah, I know my Mid-O line needs work... http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/smile.gif

Very slick. And you say it is *all* software?

Thanks!

Yeah, it's all SW, done after the fact - got the software this month, whereas all data and video were taken last year. You do have to manually synch the video and data, but though that's claimed to be the hardest part, I didn't even find it that hard. Shifts work best for me to get an exact match. It was actually surprisingly easy for me to set up and run, it seemed. I've already been in modifying some of the config to suit my preferences.

I just wish I had brake and throttle to go on that video, but giving up analog channels for those is unappealing for me; I already know how to threshold brake perfectly, far better than I could learn from the AIM system (using systems costing 20 times as much), and throttle applies are almost invariably 100% WOT in my car - too much grip and not enough power (plus LSD) to ever worry too much about power application.

I really want to log the steering input, but that will take some time to get around to.
