Want to Rent car for Nelson Drivers School 4/23-4/25

I am interested in renting a reasonably priced, reliable car for the April 23-25th SCCA school at Nelson. Please email at [email protected] if you have a car or info on a potential renter.
Eventually plan on running in SM, so a Miata would be good, but not imperative.

I might be convinced to rent my Renault Alliance IT-C. I will be instructing at the school.
It will run with most Miatas, although front wheel drive compared to their rear wheel drive. Not a big deal for a school.
You would need to call me at 330-856-7841 in the next couple of days for me to have time to prep it for that weekend.

i don't know if it was that car, but what ever renault was at last years school walked the dog on everyone sunday... miata's included! the aliance, is a bit trick for itc, isn't it? it has the largest displacement, avg weight, and they were extemely developed!

i had the x 1/9 at last years school. we came up from North Carolina, and had a blast. you will enjoy it. just bring plenty of mosquito repelant, and your own toilet seat! and if you get a guy named Roland as your instructor, hold on!

The one at the Nelson's school last year was my car, not Kirks in the picture (although his is really sharp). Cris Turkali was the driver last year at his first school. He is also one of the starters at Nelsons and joined the SCCA because of the free membership he got when he bought a Suburu WSX or whatever.
Yes, the car is well developed and has the biggest engine in the class. I did not ask for it, they gave it to me. It doesn't breath as well as the Honda's on top end, but it handles well and the gear ratios are really nice. I run a welded diff and pray for rain; it is a rocket in the wet on Hoosier drys! I have built a second one to run this year, so that one is for rent.

It was a 1.4 pushrod car, from IMSA's old Renault Cup (c.1984). We ran it there for two years on the West coast, then I used it for my SCCA Novice program in 1986 - when that first picture was taken.

You'll notice that it's raining there. The car was awesome in the wet - soft, no roll control, low power - but it got its lunch eaten by the Datsuns and Fiats in the dry. Except for at the old Olympia Airport circuit, that was rough as hell and very short.

A renter grenaded the engine, using 2nd for Portland's turn 9 "because it sounded faster," it sat for a while while he paid for a rebuild, we played with it a little in the later '80s, including a couple of good class finishes in ICSCC enduros out there, then an autocrosser bought it.

Last I heard, it was in BC and still autocrossing.

GP - You will have a great time at the school. I my opinion, Nelson is a great track for SCCA school (I was at the school last April. Downshift one gear for turn 13, upshift on the front straight. Rest of the time, you can work on brakes, turn ins, etc. Car I borrowed for the school developed a fuel starvation problem on Sunday, but we had a blast. The brick did not handle that well, but had great power (could not believe I think it was the first practice start when we got the green and actually got to pass other cars!). It would pull RX-7's on the straights, too.

Having started with SCCA at Bridgehampton in the 60's, the primative conditions of Nelson were not too bad! At least the coffee did not cause bubbles if spilled on the ground!

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Really appreciate the advice from you seasoned racers. Done a lot of Solo 2 and track days plus testing at various tracks through work, but never any wheel to wheel action (except at the local kart track http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/smile.gif

Still working on getting a car lined up. the first one I was working on fell through due to technical issues.

WIll let you know how it turns out. Otherwise, on to Waterford the following weekend. Already have a car lined up for that.
