I'm in the process of getting things set up to go racing next year and thought it'd be good to try and hook up with someone who knows the ropes. I figure chatting with someone (or someones if people want to have a group get together) who's been there done that would spare me a lot of pain and suffering (though I still expect my share). I'm in the Stone Mountain area and it'd be nice to meet somewhere on the northside, though I'm willing to go whereever. I'll buy the beer http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif.

As info, I'll be racing in ITA. I'm buying Bob Stretch's 240SX. I figure if I'm going to get a car, I might as well get a good one. I won't be able to do it justice like Bob driving, but it gives me something to shoot for. I'll know I'm getting the most out of the car if/when I start approaching Bob's times at Road Atlanta.

I look forward to hearing from some of you.

David

David,
Don't trust those Miata guys (especially the ITA ones), they are extremely wiley! I can assist you too, if need be. I/the car am/is located inside the perimeter. The car is just off Peachtree Ind. and Johnson Ferry. I have crawled around Bob's car over the years so I have some knowledge of it.

Hey Bowie, how's things? You get settled into a good job yet?

Please repaint the car - that flat black with flourescent (sp?) graphics made the car look like a rural used tire store.

The corner workers will thank you....

Tristan,

Yes, I am finally fully settled in down here. Working at LifeLink (organ donation organization)as their Quality Assurance geek.

Sarah is nearly finished with school, and should start teaching in the next year or two.

I hope to be able to run the full Pro-IT series this year... should be a blast! What does your racing schedule look like at this point?

Thanks for the replies. I'll zip you guys, Tristan and Bowie, an e-mail tonight from my home account. Maybe the three of us can hook up somewhere.

As far as the paint job. It's not what the car looks like, but how fast it is, right. http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif I do agree that it's pretty ugly at the moment. One of my questions will be where to get a cheap paint job.

Not sure, It looks like I am going to be traveling a lot next year, so I don't have a good sense yet on how much I will be able to get out on the track. But, of course, I will be doing my best to get out there. Glad all is going well with you!

David, I will be looking for your e-mail.

I'm over in the Alpharetta/Cumming area if you guys are going to get together. Hoping to do at least four events next year, but we'll see.

Doug, I'm not sure when/where we'll be getting together. Looks like it may be near downtown or somewhere on the east side. May be a hike for you, but I can let you know once we figure something out. What's your e-mail?

I'm kinda curious about the organ donor QA thing too. Do you get to put a little sticker that says "Checked by Bowie" on each one? I'll have to get the story when we get together.

By the way it's a satin black! And it looks just as pretty upside down http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

If you are going to paint it yourself, try this one (scroll to the bottom of the page for the REALLY cheap stuff) - $49 for everything.

The easy solution to the paint issue is to strip the graphis, assuming they are stick on, spray the car with clear, and add some graphics of your own.

Pebble Beach Concours quality? No, but it will look great from 10 ft.

Cool! http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

David, congrats on your new toy and it's great to hear that you will join the ITA crowd. We're also close to Stone Mountain (Lilburn). If you're looking for a paint/body shop, definitely give Sentry Body and Paint a shout at 7702792386. Mike and Ken Cottrell over there are great folks and also IT racers. That's where we've been going since we started racing in '00. They're even close by too, right here in Lilburn!

Although this post comes from a fwd Honda guy http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif I have seen Bob's car up close a few times as well. Feel free to email me as well [email protected] Looking forward to seeing you out there!

Tristan, although we've never formally met, I've see you out there. Hope everything is going well for you. And Bowie, what's up!

Thanks for the heads up on the body shop. I'll definitely give them a call once I get the car (it's still in Texas at the moment).

I'm in Lilburn as well. Stone Mountain is just the best landmark reference to give people. I'm off of Oleander Rd, which runs between Lake Lucerne and five forks if you know that area.

Yes I'm pretty familiar with that area. If you get on Lake Lucerne and drive for oh say 45 seconds, then cross Five Forks, you'll end up in our sub division. http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif Guess we can do some drafting while towing up to Road Atlanta from now on... starting on Five Forks. lol

I'm in Sugar Hill (for the moment, the house is on the market) and Stan, my racing partner lives in Duluth. We also race a Miata in ITA. Anything that I can do to help, just shoot me an email.

David,

I haven't done any racing myself, but still would love to give you a hand with your racecar. I'm a student at Lanier Tech up in Gainesville, but also spend time in Marietta. Send me an email if you'd like my novice help.

Wrong car FLIP! We only saw the bottom of the SM! The ITA Nissan has been sunny side up. Hope you had a Merry Christmas.
And for the new owner, you got a fast one... Bob has lapped me many a time in that thing.

Congratulations David! I'll second the recommendation on Sentry Paint and Body (Lilburn Industrial Dr IIRC). I'm up in Charlotte, NC and have taken two CRXs to Mike and Ken. I really like those guys a ton and they take care of us racers which is tremendously cool. Best of luck and hope to see you out there this year.

Happy New Year all!!!

I too am a IT n00b pretty close to you Atlanta folks, just a short run coming from Dalton.

I'm looking to put a 240SX on the track later this year. I know it's not the best way to go but I'm going to have to build instead of buy. It will cost more in the long run but is easier to get by the wife.

With that said I'm going to need a lot of advise during the building process and all you friendly folks seem happy to help. David, I would love to do some peeking around that 240 your getting.

Whan ya'll get together send a tell and I'll buy a round too.
