A message from Brian Holtz
Some of you may have already heard, but I thought I would pass along the
news that we have lost one of the Club's most colorful and influential
members. Frank Eubel, former Chairman lf the CRB and recipient of Club
Racing's John McGill Award for contributions to Club Racing, passed away on
Tuesday morning of an apparent heart attack.
When I first got involved with the Club Racing Field Staff as a member of
the IT Advisory Committee, Frank was the chairman. He then moved onto the
CRB and I followed a couple of years later. During his time on the CRB he
worked with fellow members Mike Higgins, Peter Quenet, Rob Walker, Ron
Franklin, Phil Creighton, Vic Skirmants, Fletcher Williams and myself,
along with a couple of others whose names escape me right now. Frank was
responsible for developing the advisory committee system to allow input
from competitors in specific race classes, he restructured the IT rules to
what they are today, was responsible for developing the rules that brought
these IT cars into Production racing leading to the Limited Prep concept,
wrote the rules for American Sedan and helped develop processes by which
the Club Racing department handles many of its issues today. If you think
we have some rough times now, you should have seen it before Rob Walker,
Frank and Peter Quenet led the group. Frank's meetings with the BOD were
legendary, as was his handling of the Town Hall meetings at the convention
and the tent meetings at the Runoffs. Ask Charlie Clark, Dan Sherrod, Pete
Hylton or Marge Binks what it was like to sit in a meeting with both Frank
and Carl Haas. He decided to cut back on his invlovement after leaving the
CRB, but continued as a valuable member of the IT Advisory Committee.
The Club has lost a true friend and contributor, one who never took from
the organization, but was always willing to give.
