I'm completely new to the SCCA and IT but I'm curious as to what the most popular cars are in IT. I'm hoping that the regional SE section has a diverse group since I find it interesting to have a large field of cars that are different instead of everyone picking 2 or 3 cars and running the same thing. What's out there?

No figures to back it up - just observation....

In SEDIV ITS, the 2nd gen RX7 is probably most popular although the BMW numbers are growing. Some people buck the trend with Honda Prelude and Triumph TR8.

ITA - Honda CRX, with some Nissan 240SX and Acura Integras.

ITB - Mostly VW GTI with a few Volvo's and BMW's. Lately a few Mustangs have appeared and some have been impressive.

ITC - Honda Civics and early CRX. The VW Rabbits and Scirrocos are lower than in the past.

B & C entries have dropped considerably with popularity of Spec Miata.

Oops! I forgot IT-7 for 1st gen RX7. These still have pretty good entry levels.

Ron -

It's a little more work, but check out some of the Region websites. NC Region has a section with both pictures and results.

IT7 typically runs with ITS and ITA. Many times SM runs alone. Then there's SS, ITB and ITC. You can look at the results by run group and see how many of each car there was, fastest lap for each racer, position-in-class and overall.

Not everyone uses the same software package, but look at the regions where you plan to race.

Ron, you will run (as Mike indicates) in the ITS/ITA/IT7 group. In that group, I can remember racing with and against:

BMW 325 (ITS)
BMW 325e (ITA)
240z, 260z, 280z (ITS)
Mercedes 190E (both the 2.3 16v and the 2.6) (ITS)
240sx (ITS and ITA)
RX7 (1st and 2nd Gen)
RX3 (ITA)
CRX (ITA)
Civic Si (ITA)
MR2 (ITA)
Integra (ITA and ITS)
Prelude (ITS)
Alfa Milano (ITS)
AMC Spirit (ITA)
Porsche 924s and 944 (ITS)

There are ones I have missed I am sure. However, it is a diverse group and I enjoy the run group's relative strengths and weaknesses.

yea, but admit it...you enjoy the weaknesses just a little more than the strengths, right? http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif

Jeff,

That is a diverse group and should be a lot of fun! I like some of the rarer cars in that run - Alfa, MB, TR8, etc. The others are cool too, but it is nice to see that folks people like the diversity as well.
