Land O' Lakes region is holding a restricted double regional Aug 20/21/22 at Brainerd International Raceway.

This event is part of the Area 5 Championship series, entry forms can be found on the LOL web site (www.scca-lol.org).

This event is held in conjunction with Viper Days race series and NASCAR elite series and will be a spectator event - great exposure for your sponsors.

If you have never been to BIR you are in for a treat. It’s a 10-turn 3-mile course. The 4700' front straight can give you drafting experience and turn one can allow cornering at terminal velocity. Plenty of challenge on the back side too. Plus the Brainerd area is great to visit. For those racers towing from a long ways away you will be pleased to see the SCCA races are held in the morning, giving you an early start home on Sunday. The cost for both races is $200.

We hope to see you there!

Ben, I have never been to Brainerd International Raceway but have been told by some who have raced there that a fellow can get into all sorts of $HIT in the turn at the end of the straight. Runoff at oval race tracks IS NOT.

I added up the miles, added in the oval race track & said to myself, I don't need that place.

Beleive it or not I am going racing this Sunday for the first time this year. @ the Farm for a Midwestern Counsel race. ITA = 1 hour track time for $150 + D Production for $80 add on for a second hour. 2 hours track time for $230...... With all the new different stuff it should make for some very good setup & test time. Need to be somewhat ready for ya when we catch up with each other.

David, you were very much mis-informed by whom ever you spoke with.

Brainerd is definitely NOT a 'roval'.

http://www.brainerdracewayandresort.com/hi...=hi%20main.html (http://www.brainerdracewayandresort.com/history/hi%20fs.html?=hi%20main.html)

Click on 'racers' and then 'track layout & map'

It is a true 3.1 mile road coarse. The high speed aspect comes from the 4700ft long, 60ft wide front striaght that leads to a banked turn 1 and a ungodly fast turn 2 sweeper. In a low powered IT/SS/Prod car you have your foot to the floor for about 1.5 miles! If you thought drafting at RA is cool, in ain't nothing compared to some of the 2-3 wide draft trains that get setup going into turn 1.

After running Brainerd, you WILL know what the top speed of your car is.

And yes, much like the Kink at RA, if you screw up turn 1 or 2, you are going to go flying. The difference being at RA you hit wall, but at BIR (at least when I raced there in 1990) there was quite a bit of runoff so more than likely you'll need some new undies.

Everybody needs to run BIR at least once. It seems to be a love it/hate it type track. Biggest problem is it is 8 hours from MILW.

I've never raced at Brainerd, but have taken a victory lap there once, it is quite a ride !! It was my dad's all-time favorite track, we went there alot back in the day. My current car was previously owned by a great guy from St. Paul. I'm hoping for another race there next year, I WILL pull the 500 miles, just to get my car back on it's "home" track.

I'd love to run BIR sometime. But damn, 8 hours from Milwaukee? That would make it 15-16 from Columbus. Uhm, sorry.

Greg, please accept my humble apology for being wrong for the first time this year. Maybe it was the messenger who screwed up the message.

Point made: 4700ft long, 60ft wide front striaght that leads to a banked turn 1 and a ungodly fast turn 2 sweeper.

Now lets not make complaints of towing time. Us folks from up here in the 'Nort' have been doing 6-8 hour towing times to the farm and RA for a long time, so buck up!

I've never been to this track but I'm starting to get excited. So this place is faster than RA? So is my 5.12 rear finally going to be to small? Are we talking about a pucker factor greater than turn 1 at RA? I think the high speeds and the crazy diverse run group is going to make this interesting.

Does anyone have any driving tips for this road course or maybe a link to a video? Looking at the track map I see a lot of > 90 degree turns too. Seems like a fun one!

Benracing, You nailed it - EVERY track is more than 6 hours from us up north (until now).

Where are you located? I have video from BIR when I ran AS. I suspect you will see high gear redline in your car, 5.13 gear or not (!) Maybe Gauper write one of his "turn by turn" guides to the track.

T-1 at RA is just a normal turn compared to T-2 at BIR. Half way through T-1 ya start thinking "Should I do it? I think I can, I think I can...", and then if you have cojones, you over ride the overwelming self preservation instinct and keep your quivering right foot jammed to the floor. Done right, your spleen and right kidney will shift to the left side of your chest cavity from the centrifugal force, while you scream out "What the hell was I thinking?" But not to worry, after the first 100 or so times doing it, your testicles quit retracting and you get used to it, providing some one doesn't cause you to lift, there by sending you off sideways drivers right at 120+. Then you just have to start the process all over again.
From turn in at T-10, to braking point at T-3, it's over 1.5 miles before lifting. Everybody needs to try this track!

Mark, you made my Monday morning CHUCKLE.
Never been there but from your description I felt like I was doing the turns.... http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/confused.gif http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/eek.gif

You nailed the description perfectly Mark!

What I do remember about my only trip there in 1990 was that turn 1 looked like a wall as you approached it. Seriously...you think you are going to hit a wall. And then you ease into 1 and tell yourself "cool!" Took about 2-3 laps in practice and then turn 1 became a no-brainer.

Turn 2 is the one that you gotta suck it up for. Be patient on the turn in. You will be going very fast and 'self preservation' instincts will tell you to turn in early, but you need to wait. After that throw out the anchor, drag your feet, get on the binders, etc, to whoa for turn 3! Most of the turns are pretty basic. Hardest corner is the 7-8 combo. Finding the right balance between entry speed into 7 without giving up exit speed into 8 is tricky.

Well howdy Mr. Fuehrer. I live out in Chaska but would be willing to come grab that from you. For your help I'd be willing to make you a DVD of your tape since I kind of do that for a living. Sound good? Maybe you could give me a little play by play?

Ben.

HEY GREG!

Drop me a line, let's talk Limeted prep. I haven't seen you since you crunched the civic at Blackhawk!

Ben, your in Chaska? I'm way over in Eden Prairie....

Let's hook up and I'll send some video home with you. I'd be interested in knowing what you can do for video to DVD production. It would be great to put some "greatest moments" together on DVD for the LOL Autoshow display.

I'm very dissapointed to make this announcement. There is an SCCA mandated barrier that cannot be installed before the event, therefore the sanction for this event has been pulled.

There is no SCCA race this weekend.

There will be a non-SCCA sanctioned race following the same schedule and format as originally planned. This event is not recognized by SCCA or Land O Lakes Region of SCCA.

The cost of this new event is $175 payable at the event.

Details and race entries can be found by sending email to [email protected]

SCCA racing at BIR is delayed one more year.
