How long do you usually go before replacing yours?

When they physically come apart, it's time. Otherwise it's more an issue of style...

I've still got the first one I bought back in '89. I keep it as a backup, in case something happens to my other suit (which I've had since '96).

I had hoped that it (an OMP Trend) would last at least 3-4 years, but already getting some wear spots on the ass in year 2....maybe I should just make my ass smaller....lol.

Thanks guys. I'll keep wearing it until I think some far might get in the hole.

Since you are talking about suit's I also have a question. I just bought a Simpson euro suit and the tag says DRY CLEAN ONLY is everyone dry cleaning or is it safe to hand wash and hang dry.
Thanks,
Michael Flock

I think this is the year for a new suit. Not that it has worn appreciably, I'm just not as svelt as I was in '92.

I've been machine washing my suits since 1986, on gentle, turned inside-out so they don't bash around in the washer. Dry on medium heat. No problems.

Nomex is a high-temperature NYLON. It's tough as hell.

The most damaging influence is Uv light. Keep them out of the sun.

My original 1-layer is over 30 years old-doesn't look bad, but barely fits http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif. Good for HPDE only. The Simpson is 2 years old and is off to the cleaners. The tag is correct-DRY Clean only is the preferred method for a multi-layer suit. The pro teams use this method because of the patches and other custom touches. Make sure that the cleaners understand that it can only be cleaned with PERC if it is a Simpson suit. Other brands are probably the same-but check before cleaning. If you want to machine wash-do it at the laundromat in one of the large machines.

One other tidbit, if machine washing fasten any/all velcro closures.

Suits last much longer if you don't do any work in them...keep them off until a few minutes before being called to pregrid.

I'd never seen a driving suit with bellbottoms before, Jake.
