Marc Schatell asked me if I would host this video clip for him. It's from a SM race at VIR this spring. Please "save as" to preserve bandwidth since I expect this will get popular...

Me thinks we should start a "caption this picture" for that still. I'll start:
"Former Motorcycle legend Kenny Roberts takes up IT racing"

Looking just at the pic, I was thinking it doesn't really look like a Miata from that angle.... http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/eek.gif

<crickets chirping>
Ah, those captions weren't that bad, were they?
Or nobody remembers tom slick or the gumball rally?
I know, Hooter's girls!!!
<crickets still chirping>
well, at least its friday!! I liked the elvis costello caption the best so far. We are all pretty old to remember the chitwoods and kenny roberts or pink floyd, that's the 70's.

So... is this what they mean when they say "he was on a flyer"?
"Uh, I learned that from Michael Schumacker."
Or,
"See? My suspension is legal. Quick, measure my bumpstops!"

K - this is hitting some online forums w/o the request to save as, so you may want to change the name/path or something.
Also, anyone know the real story of what happened?
Thanks,
Diane

I wouldn't have posted it if I were all that worried but I'd love to know where else it's being posted, if you see it. I'd just pop in and make the "save as" request.

It's on the Escort Racing board, but you have to sign up to post. I can do it for you, not a problem. I just don't know where he found it, if he saw it here or someplace else. He posted it the same day I saw it here.
So is anyone going to share the "how it happened story"? http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif
Diane
<edit> One of the other mods deleted it so not a problem anymore.

Erk. I just checked the download bandwidth volume and it's exceeded even my worst-case guess. It's coming off for a while or I'm going to get clobbered for a couple hundred bucks of overage charges.
If anyone REALLY wants it, email me and I'll give you the new url.
K
Kirk, how big is it? I may be able to find someone to host it.

It's 3.5MB, Geo. I don't frankly know a lot about video formatting so it may not be very well optimized.

There are 3 videos now being hosted at http://www.specmiatavideos.com
Go to the Crash Videos section.
The full explanation of what happened is at the http://www.specmiata.com discussion board. In a nutshell, Car 1 missed the downshift from 4th to 3rd (ended up in neutral), the rear-end stepped out so he counter-steered. Car 2 was trying to pass inside. When they hit, instead of hitting Car 1's fender, Car 2 hit Car 1's tire (he's counter-steering, remember) and is launched over the hood.
All I can say it, "Wow!"
