As you might recall, I copied the Simpson/ D-Cel harness design and made my
own restraint system for about 100 bucks. It actually cost a bit more
because I used the very trick helmet mounting hardware used by the Hans
system.

In any event. I was very happy with it during the racing season.
(Thankfully, I didn't have to give it a real world test.)

Which leads me to this. I got a looks at the actual Simpson system at the
Philly motorsports show yesterday and I think that mine may actually be
better built. The hardware is the same and I suspect that my OSHA approved
harness may be stronger. Just an impression as I didn't have my testing
equipment with me.

For what it's worth, I think that everybody should be using some kind of
Head/neck restraint. Contact Jay Wright, get creative or dig in deep and buy
the HANS.

By the way, I also got a look at the new seats with improved shoulder and
head restraints that are showing up in cup cars. The shoulder and head
restraint systems sold by Kirkey and the other aluminum seat builders are
much improved. The complete seat systems are huge. I'm considering adding
the shoulders to my Kirkey.
