OK, so today at lunch I decided to do a little looking to see if I could score a good deal on wheels on e-Bay (knowing that I probably wouldn't). In the process, I've come across several decently priced wheels, similar to the following:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=43955 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2447572422&category=43955)

I'm very hesitant to purchase something like this from e-Bay, mostly because these aren't necessarily the brands I am familiar with.

Anyone have any experience with any of these brands (I did a search for 15 wheel* to get to these and over 1100 other choices)? Keep in mind the above link is only a representative sample and that there are others out there...

Bill, check out the wheels the Spec Miata folks use. IIRC 15 x 7 @ $100 each & they are competition proven race wheels.

Of course the spokes stick outside the rim/side of tire & racing with Ben that may not work.

I bought 11 OEM VW alloys for the GTI and payed an average of $58 a piece for them. Nothing but good experiences with eBay wheel purchases.

However, I would be equally hesitant about off-brand new wheels...

I'd be hesitant to buy anything from Motegi (American Racing's "import" brand) as far as a performance wheel goes.

The seller Tires-n-parts is a well know distributor and they have a great reputation, actually I still buy lots of products from them and resell them on my web page.
As for the Motegi wheels well I have no experience with them and I can not advise you on them.

TSW wheels are made in SA and are DAMN STRONG! Ive seen them testing them! I highly recommend em..I picked up a set for under $150 when the exchange rate was good...

As a long long term user of American Racing wheels-I'm biased. The Motegi MR12s we use are heavier than many other possibilities in a 14" for the CRX. The ones on our race car are indeed cast and machined here in the USA. So far no problems with them on either the CRX or Prelude. Support by the factory has been excellent.
As to E-bay buying that I have not done. I did talk to one wheel vendor who has a solid reputation as to what he offers. Personally, I would rather go and find new or visit a local yard and see what they can do.

Well, the ones I'm looking at all appear to be new, and need to be less than 13# each for me to even consider them. I already have 3 sets of Saturn stock wheels, but these are too heavy and don't breathe well enough to keep the brakes cool.

Maybe I'll just stick with the original Kosei K1 plan from Tirerack.com. They're only $129 each, so I'm not really saving that much (but, as we all know, every little bit helps!).

I think Pep Boys carries Montegi, if you want to see them up close.
Good-Win racing carries the Konig Helium which is around 11 pounds in 15x6.5, and around $100. He carries Miata stuff, but may be able to supply your bolt pattern. The same wheel from Tires.com is a lost more $ for some reason.

Bill,

Go to this Ebay site and look up his other listings for your type rim

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2447964608 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43955&item=2447964608)

This guy has many rims available for a very good price. I bought a set of 14x6" off of him for around $160.00. They were brand new.
They did lack the center cap which we all toss anyway.

He is out of Louisville Ky. I lived close enough to eliminate shipping. I met him and everything appears legit.

I have raced on the rims three times last year. IRP M-O and Gingerman. The rims worked well and showed no signs of fatigue or cracking.

Good Luck
Duncan
