I am hoping to go to the Mid Ohio Regional on July 2nd and 3rd! First question... is anyone here going? second question... what kind of track time are we looking at? I know it is a double but how is it normally set up? 1 qual then a race and then a repeat on Sunday? Is there a practice day on friday or any other day earlier in the week? Any info would be great so I can plan my time off! Nothing is on the cincy region web site yet http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/frown.gif

Stephen

Oh ya who are the tough competitors in ITB out there and what do they drive?

Hey Stephen, it would be great to see you and brother over at Mid Ohio this summer! You're pretty accurate on the format of the weekend. You'll get about a 20 minute qualifying session each morning and then about a 35 minute race each afternoon. Most likely there will be a Friday practice day but I'll have to get back with you for sure on that.

Honestly, I don't know who will be out there playing in ITB this year. I know Chris Wilke and Travis Schwenke should be around (you should know them from the ARRC last year). There's also some other pretty good Volvo's, GTI's, and 2002's around.

Let me know if there's anything else you guys need.

I'll be there in my ITS RX-7 if I get the motor built and broke in, in time. I have yet to hear about a test day at MidOhio, because I would be there in a heartbeat.

Hope to be there as well, but car is still in the shop getting the floor repaired and cage installed. Also, since this is my home region's only race I may be called on to work instead of play.

So I am running in group 6, I have an ITB car. Do you think ITB has any chance at pole for the group? I'm guessing it will be SPU out in front... if not which classes are the fastest in group 6? (group 6 ITB, ITC, IT-7, BG, LC, SRX-7, SPU) Will the top ITB cars be running neck and neck with the RX7's? I just want to get an idea of who and what I should be trying to stay up with when I go out to qualify on saturday! Also what is BG and LC? I have never heard of those classes.

I'm sending my entry today!

Is a preregistration list ever posted on the net for Cincy region events?

Does anyone know if there is a test day on the friday before the event?

who do I contact for tires before the event? (Hoosiers)

Oh ya one last thing are there any firworks in the area that weekend for the 4th.

Very few CenDiv regions keep registration lists up before a race. I don't know why.

As far as I know, there is not a Friday test day. But if there is, it'll be more advertised a little later on.

Contact MidWest Hoosier if you need tires at the track.

I don't know anything about fireworks.

BG = Baby Grands. They're like miniature Nascar Cup cars with motorcycle engines in them. If any of them shop up and are any good, they'll be quicker than ITB cars. LC = Legend Cars. Again, smaller cars with these retro looking bodies on them and motorcycle engines. They very, very, very rarely show up so don't worry about it. SPU cars are also very few and far between. I'd still expect the top ITB car to be in the top 5 in qualifying in that group, at least.

Thanks!! We do get 2 or 4 of the baby grands racing over here in NH but they have to run in SPU I think. I haven't seen any legend cars in a long time but I when I did the Mount Washington Hillclimb they were in the same class as me. I think 1 beat me and I beat 2... arrg second to a car with the same HP, 1/2 the weight and 1.2 the size. Should be a great weekend and thanks for the clarifications.

PS I called Mid-Ohio and they said no test days are scheduled for the prior week. Darn.

I also found a picture of Scott who is winning the Cen div this year and I think set a new record at IRP this year for ITB.

There was a very quick Suzuki Swift in ITB last year. He was on the pole a few time and I believe a lap time around 1:48s on the club coarse. Having raced there in ITB for many years I would bet that ITB will be on the pole. The have not been as many B cars lately or C cars for that matter. I remember when ITB was it on group at MId-Ohio several years ago.

Yup, I remember when a ITC & ITB field at Mid Ohio could put up close to 50 cars. It wasn't that long ago either. Damn Spec Miata's....

Scott's car is quick. I'd also expect Travis Schwenke and Chris Wilke to show up - two more real quick VW's.

Doug Ford and I are planning on coming from Memphis in ITS RX-7s. I haven't raced at Mid-Ohio since '01 and Doug never has so bummer about no practice day. What size ITS field can we expect? Where is the best place to stay? By best I mean the optimum combination of proximity, cleanliness, and economy. (not necessarilly in that order)

How come no talk about Road America next weekend? What kind of turnout do they get? A couple of RX-7 guys from here are going and I'm thinking about it. Do they have a practice day?

THe last couple of years there has been between 20-28 ITS cars in a group. The most RX-7's were like 6-7. I will be there in my RX-7 would be glad to meet some new RX-7 drivers.

As for lodging I have been using hotels.com which got me a room at the Baymont Inn for $60 a night. This year the deal doesn't seem availible. I will be paying a bit more to stay at the Hampton Inn close to the track (as it looks like on a map). It usually is a good turnout, and we will be playing with the ITA cars again.

Look forward to meeting you guys. I paddock on the pavement near the Truchoice booth.

I'm afraid I'm having to back out of this one - not enough time and money (not to mention energy), running the Waterford schedule alone is giving me a real beating. I also don't quite have my stuff together as I wanted by this point, still fairly well up to my elbows in R+D.

Have fun, hope to make it to WOR Games in Aug!

I have work comitments that I cannot get out of http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/frown.gif I have been tempararly transfered to the Cape in Mass. and will not be home until September. Come september though I am going to need a fix! I hope to race at as many races as possible since it is already June and I havn't raced yet! I guess the good thing is I have saved a bunch of money that I can put into my car. Although I still think the best money to spend on a car is track time, but o-well what can you do.

Can't wait either Kevin, hopefully we get some rain this week so we get none over the weekend. We will be in our normal spot, my car will just be mulit-colored. It's all fixed, just no time to paint the new hood/fender, but it's straight!

You know where we will be. FYI, we never pass the Ruck compound for two reasons: 1) its uphill from where we are, 2) you and your dad have scooters!

That's great. Did you have to get that one frame rail pulled or welded up or something? Don't worry about it being multicolored, hoods and fenders are wear itens anyway. http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/wink.gif

Hahahaha, that's funny as hell. Yea, it's up hill, but we only have one scooter! Sometimes I like being down on the asphalt (like if we know the weathers going to be horrid) but up on the hill we always get a good breeze and great TV reception! http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/smile.gif

Had the rail bent back up, it wasn't moved that far. How the front bumper of a GTI can go UNDER a front bumper of a SM (especially at that position on the track) I will not try to understand.

New bumper, new hood, new core support, new headlight, new fender, new battery (well, all new to me) and I am ready to go..

I had a great time. Got to meet Doug Ford, Bill Denton, RacerBill, and a few others, and renewed friendships with many others. Doug and I battled it out on Sunday, but he out-drove me on the last lap.

Where the heck does Chris Ludwig find all that speed? He's got me by 5 seconds and won both ITS races.

I had a pretty good weekend but would've liked a little more. Saturday I qualified 4th in ITA and 6th overall (with ITS). I was able to hang at the rear of the 6 car lead pack that was just going at it the whole race. I had a great race to sit there and watch 2 ITA CRX's, 2 ITS 325's, and 1 ITS RX-7 go back and forth. Unfortunately it was taking all I could to stay right there with them so I didn't mix it up much. Still, finished 3rd in ITA and 6th overall.

Sunday I was a little mad about not getting up into that pack so I knew I had to qualify better. I went out and took the ITA pole and was 2nd on the grid behind Chris' RX-7. The two ITA CRX's, Chris, a ITS Prelude, and I were able to break away from everyone else. All three of us ITA cars got by the Prelude and left him behind. So for about the first half of the race, the ITA race was pretty good. I went from 1st to 2nd, back to 1st, back to 2nd, and then eventually to 3rd.

So I guess I'm glad that I can finally hang with two of the best ITA cars in the country now (they were 3rd and 4th at the ARRC last year, I was 7th). It's just taking all I've got to do it. Plus they're just faster than me down the back straight-away and eventually you just can't defend that. My car just needs to rotate a tad bit more. I might try a bigger rear sway bar and see how that works. Oh yea, and another 7whp would be fabulous. http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/wink.gif

Doug and I had a great time at Mid-Ohio thanks to the guys we have met on this site -Paul, Chris, Marty. I had raced there a few times '99-'01 in other cars but was much faster in my "new" SpeedSource RX-7. I was thrilled to be w/i a sec. of the winner (some guy in an orange RX-7) Sat. but on Sun. he was a sec. faster and I was a sec. slower. Chris really had it dialed in. I wish I had been on better tires - but isn't that what we all say after about 3 sessions on Hoosiers? My resonator (a second Borla muffler in the cat position)blew out in qualifying Sun. and think I lost a little low end; per the Pi I was actually 2 mph faster on the straight. Doug had never raced at M-O but after we attended The Runoffs last year he really wanted to. We were both pleased to get out of there w/ minimal damage - Doug none but I have a dent in the left rear courtesy of a certain red 280Z w/ silver graphics that came w/o an apology. The drive home was thankfully uneventful: we pulled out at 2 p.m. local time and were in the Memphis city limits around 11 Memphis time. I'll get the photos edited and e-mail them to you. Why don't you guys come to St. Louis 8/6-7?

Thanks for the congrats guys. I never would of guessed the weekend would of turned out the way it did. We came within 7/10th of the track record Sunday but still had A cars breathing down our necks! That's the amazing thing to me. Those are the guys that are dialed in.

Was definetly a fun weekend for us. Got to meet a couple new faces and see some people we haven't seen in a while. My crew celebrated a bit too much Saturday night after the win. Made for some candid moments Sunday. http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/biggrin.gif

The Aug 6/7 weekend I have another engagement. It's a bit up in the air at this point but I plan on doing the weekend before at Mid-Ohio so I'll probably take that weekend off regardless. I plan on doing the fall race at Gateway though so maybe we can see you guys then?

On Sunday, Dave (the silver CRX) came within a tenth of the ITA track record and Bob (the yellow CRX) came within two tenths. I didn't think the track was that fast so I was impressed. I'd expect it though since those two CRX's finished 3rd and 4th at the ARRC last year.

Hi all-

I made it home safe and sound after an interesting journey into Canada with my friends pickup and the race car.... just to check out Niagra Falls... it was hard to find parking but we did for free and just pretended to be dumb torists.. oh wait we were!!!

LOL

Anyway full race report coming with a bunch of thank yous and a couple pictures... To tired to keep typing, but I must say besides the fact that my car was slower than a turtle, (nevermind a rabbit) I had a blast. Next time I come out watch out though, as I think we can easily get the car to the front, the track is better suited for the car than any track I have ever been on, that being said, I will be back!!!

Thanks again for all the help, you were all wonderfull to me and that cute newly recruited Audi girl http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/wink.gif (Thanks for the help Alli)

For those interested in returning to Mid-Ohio for another double, there's the Ft. Wayne Brat Bash 7/30-31. I realize that there are two double regionals at Mid-Ohio one week apart(what's with that????) but racing is racing!
