Hey, it's only 90 days away! http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif
Starting to look for some good pointers for attending the St. Louis Double School/Regional weekend on March 10-12. How does arrival work? Can we park the car Thursday night at the track? Anybody konw the general schedule that they use for the school? Hotel recommendations? I know this stuff hasn't been posted yet on the St. Louis site, I'm just getting an early start....and getting tired of sitting in the car in the garage making vroom, vroom noises!

The track is very easy to get to and get into. You may park the car on Thursday night for a fee of $20.00 payable to the track.

I believe that the classroom session usually starts around 8:00 on Friday morning.

My husband and I sponsor the event by donating ball caps for all of the competitors.

If you have any other questions, let me know, I will try to help!

Thanks,

Thanks for the info Jennifer. Good to know I don't have to park the car at the hotel!
I don't suppose you know if Ron Flier will be knocking about at the track that weekend? I had a chance to meet and play tag with him at a lapping event during the summer at IRP.

{STL RR Webmaster hat on}Some of the info is actually on the site(hotels, directions, track contact #'s, parking info). Just poke around a little in the Road Race section(under STL Racing up on the black banner). If you can't find anything, let me know.

We're working on new email registration forms as well as completely online registration for this coming season. I'm sure we'll be discussing the Drivers School at Mondays RR Committee meeting, so if there's any updates, I'll be posting them on the website.

Bring warm clothes, prepare to be rained on, snowed on or for it to be in the 60's and sunny. Definitely bring some buddies as crew as it is A LOT of track time and you'll have zero time to swap tires or check brakes etc. Friday is mostly classroom sessions in the morning starting around 7:30. IIRC, you'll get some track time after lunch... low speed/no passing type stuff. Saturday is almost ALL track time with around 8 sessions in the day. The last session is a double practice start and a ten lap "race."

Just remember that nobody wins at a drivers school and the goal is to be driving home on Sunday with a car that went on the trailer on it's own and a big tired grin on your face http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif

I'm on the northwest side. You've been dodging me at pit-out at IRP the last few years (I've only been run over by an FV so far...)

Dave, thanks, wasn't sure what the level of "fleabag" the Motel 6 was going to be.

Scott, thanks for the info. I've reviewed everything up on the site. My crew will only be one guy, but he has raced at gateway before and has instructed as well.

Will this double school, if successfully completed, yield a license to compete at the regional level? I would like to compete in the regional at IRP in May. A buddy of mine did the fall school at Memphis and that got him credit for one school weekend. What is the format for the double school, and has the host region released any information regarding the school? Thanks for your feedback.

Jim... Info is coming soon as the details are being finalized. Keep checking the regions website www.stlscca.org (http://www.stlscca.org) for the entry and supps. I'll also post here on IT.com when they're up.

The Double Drivers School will get you 2 completed schools which will complete the school requirements (assuming he passes both days). If he chooses he can also race on the Sunday and get his first race out of the way. Then all he'll need is a second completed race to get his licence. Tell him to run on his novice permit as long as possible. It'll save him a few $$$

Just an aside... The school will be very Novice Friendly this year. Licenced drivers get the big red dot identifying them and WILL be watched like hawks. ANY intimidating/bonzai moves and they'll be sent to the principles office. All drivers will have instructors whether licenced or novice.

Also, if you're buddy still needs a school to complete his requirements, he can run the second day of the school (Saturday) with no problem and then compete on Sunday.

What about those of us who are renewing (I hate to ask Lisa for another extension - it's been almost 2 years since I had my car on track)? Can we harass the students? http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif

There aren't any hookups available, but you can stay the night at the track in a "motorhome," or in other words... no tents http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/wink.gif

Camping is free except maybe for Thurs. night. I know they charge for you to keep your racecar at the track overnight on Thursdays before Test N Tunes.

I assume there are restrictions on exit and entry at some point in the evening/night? Are we taling in the paddock or some other parking area? Just want to make sure that if we trot out to grab some food (I can't abuse my volunteer crew chief with too many meals of PB&J) we will be able to get back in the joint? Just brainstorming here as I may be able to "rent" a motorhome from a buddy for the price of 3 nights of hotel. Nothing like traveling in style for my very first school/race weekend!

Jude, the last time we "camped" over Thursday night, they charged us the $20. In all fairness, we had the car with us, so it may have been a "parking" fee. I've never tried it without the car.

FWIW, if you're not bringing a car, they will most likely require you to paddock (camp) in the first (gravel) parking area - which is only fair, so the cars don't have to pick rocks out of their race tires.

Entry and exit is not too painful. Just keep your SCCA ID with you. If you plan on coming back after 10pmish, it's a little harder if nothing else (drag racing) is going on that night and the "Security" guy is on rounds. You'll have to wait for him to get back as the outside gates will be locked. Once you get into the track you've pretty much got free reign (sp?).

http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif ... Rookies aren't being singled out at this school... the Licensed drivers are.

It hasn't been officially decided upon but there will be some sort of target on the licensed drivers and they'll be watched like hawks by the instructors. ANY intimidating moves/dive bombs/bonzai tactics and they get to sit in the corner and watch all the other kids play. Also, EVERY person in the school gets an instructor who will be watching them.

There's talk of having a car on the track every session for ride alongs/follows as well as a set of eyes on the track.

Hi,
I have a few questions about this Driving School, I was reading the entry form and noticed that there is not a late entry fee, do you have to preregister for this event. ? Also is this event limited to a certain number of enterants, I did not want to preregister and have the weather turn out to be 28 deg and snow showers.
Thanks,

IIRC, there is no late fee, but definitely call Carol Cohn on that. Preregistering would be a good idea though. Anything to make the volunteers lives a little easier.

No limit on the number of entrants. 28 degree's and snow is probably a huge longshot, but I know that they'll still hold the school with it snowing (was it last year that it snowed????)

And then come to Memphis the next weekend and get 2 races in. Better weather. And BBQ.

Thanks for the pre-register money back info, I did not know if they would refund the money if you were unable to attend. I had fun at the Memphis school last October and would like more time on that track, Is that the only double weekend at Memphis this year?
There is a spring double regional at I.R.P. this year on May 7&8 with a open pratice day on Fri. The Friday practice is usally $ 125 for the whole day, there is usally quite a few RX-7 that show up.

From the looks of the entry list the sedan run group is getting rather large. How many cars can Gateway hold and what are the chances of splitting the group. I'm normally all in favor of lots of cars but 45+ cars on that track doesn't sound like a great idea.

We'll try to do something about the weather for next time. It sure was cold out on the corners. The big sign outside the gate never got about 30. That was one bad thing about being in turn 7 - I could see that sign.

KevSC1,
Thanks for being out on a corner for us. I sure do appreciate it. It certainly did look cold out there. I've spent enough time on one myself as well as working pit road in less than "favorable" weather.
Thanks again!

T5 wasn't too bad on Sunday as long as you were Blue Flagging. The wind was right in the yellow flaggers face.

I stopped in and talked to a couple of guys paddocked in the garage and it seemed a lot colder there than while on the track.

Chris and everyone else, if you've got any feedback on the event (either positive or negative), shoot me an email and I'll relay it to the rest of the rest of the STL Road Race Committee.

Hey Scott, you didn't happen to notice a red Nissan go 4 wheels off at the apex of T5 with 3 laps to go did you? http://ITForum.ImprovedTouring.com/smile.gif

You're welcome. I enjoyed it, but I like it better when it is warmer!

We were pretty busy at the end of the race. The ITB Prelude had a pretty good off into the tirewall in 5 so I was a little busy with the yellow and failing to communicate with Control. "Corner Working is hard mmm-kay"

Did you get passed while you were three wheels off? Maybe that was the pass under yellow I was asked about...

No, this was before the Prelude smacked te wall. I got held up by one of the Vette's going into 3 (I love saying that!) and the red ITA Miata I had been racing with got on the inside of me into 4. I carried way to much speed (too busy watching out for him) and had a real "OY!" moment and went into the grass at the turn in to 5. He gave me plenty of room to gather it up, but still got by me. My in-car video in entertaining. The next lap you can see my tire tracks thru the grass...
