GTS Challenge announces the Blitzkrieg Challenge

GTS Challenge is proud to announce the Blitzkrieg Challenge, August 20-22nd at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The Blitzkrieg Challenge will be occurring in conjunction with the Triple Crown Tuner Challenge, a two-day car show featuring the hottest custom-tuned street cars competing in three classes - speed, style, and sound - for ultimate bragging rights. Sound and style aside, however, the entire weekend will be focused on the on-track racing action, of which GTS Challenge will be the core.

The weekend's schedule will be splitting up the race groups by car type, with the GTS Challenge cars as the heart and soul of the European run group. The weekend will be full of excitement, with 5000+ spectators expected on hand to catch all the wheel-to-wheel action! Each race class with 10 or more entrants will score one free OH/IN race entry, to be drawn at random for one lucky class entrant. Get your competitors out there to ensure your best chance at one of these generous free entries! Additionally, NASA OH/IN Region will be giving half-price entry fees to anyone towing more than 1000mi to this event! (email Director Lawrence Mansier at [email protected] to register for this offer)

GTS Challenge entrants will benefit further from the chance to win the Apex Performance Heat of the Battle Award, a new FireCharger Fire Supression System (2.3L - retail value $349.95), to be awarded to the winner of the most intense wheel-to-wheel battle of Sunday's race!

Lunch on Saturday will be provided by Franklin Square Deli. GTS Challenge entrants will be paddocked in a dedicated area of the lower paddock, close by all the action. Furthermore, we will benefit from the continued support of series sponsors Carbotech Engineering and Apex Performance, as well as NASA sponsors Toyo Tires.

GTS Challenge Administration is pleased to announce the addition of Chuck Ellis to the team. Chuck has accepted the position of Southeast Region GTS Challenge Director. In keeping with GTS Challenge tradition, Chuck is also a GTS Challenge racer, piloting his Mercedes 190 in GTS1 competition. “Chuck is a perfect addition to GTS Challenge as he shares the same desire for fun, safe and competitive racing and a passion for the sport that inspired the creation of GTS Challenge”, said Mark Barr, GTS Challenge Director. "With an active BMW contingent and year-round access to some of the best tracks in the country, we expect great things from this region!"

The SE Region has already been in the thick of the GTS season, racing at Nashville Motor Speedway, Road Atlanta, and Roebling Road. GTS Challenge will return to the SE Region next in August at Road Atlanta.

---

This season has been an exciting year of growth for the GTS Challenge. We've added our third NASA Region, the Southeast Region (home to some very exciting racing recently at Road Atlanta), and we have seen over 50 active drivers participating in our series already! This weekend at Mid-Ohio will count for triple points towards the GTS National Championship, as the OH/IN Region's showcase event. As the last of three such national events in the series, the Championships for all 5 GTS classes are sure to be on the line for this weekend!

GTS Challenge is a touring car series for all Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche street cars. Rules are very open, with classifications decided on rear-wheel horsepower and vehicle weight with driver - actual as-raced configuration. As such, cars from many different series are eligible and do compete; everything from PCA and BMWCCA Stock classes to ex-World Challenge cars! Our mission is to provide German car racers a "customer driven", convenient, competitive venue for racing their cars and to attract as many existing racecars into one series by offering several competitive classes. We race under a modified 13-13 rule, and emphasize clean, sportsmanlike racing.

GTS turnout for the Blitz is now clear above 30 cars, and with a good 15 or so GTS2 cars (think ITS) as well as the GTSU 993 Turbos, GT2's, and M3's, I don't think there's much question who's going to be putting on the better show!

There's still room to sign up, and all BMW's, Porsches, Mercedes's and Audis are eligible. Turnout in every class is strong, so you can be sure of someone to play with, no matter what you're driving...
