Just a Quick roll call to see who will be attending the Mothers Day Race Weekend at IRP on May 8 and 9.

I'll be there in my CRX. Hope to have lots of people to race.

See you there.

I'll be there assuming I can keep my motor together long enough to drive the car in the trailer. I'll have my ITB Escort GT. Any other takers in "B".

Hey Barry,I'm ready for the season for sure. A little disappointed with Road Atlanta but I've got the car back together again...and again....and again....and again. You get the point. I'll see you there. Save us a spot or we'll save you one either way. Are you planning on going to the test day? I doubt I will but I'll be up there by mid afternoon.

Hey Jon, did you run Road Atlanta recently?
Hope this one will be a little better than the last season for you.
I am not planning on running the test day, but should be there Friday afternoon as well.
Will save you a spot if I get there first. I talked to Travis, didnt sound like they were going?

Hey Barry, yeah I ran at Road Atlanta the first weekend of March. Had the head gasket go with 2 laps left in the race. Was running okay in the 53's there which is 3+ seconds a lap faster than I've run there before but still not up to the 49's of the fast VW's and Volvos. Too much work for the same old results that I get up here. Too bad Travis and Chris aren't going, but at least you and I have a chance to battle it out for a class win! I haven't been able to say that very often. See ya' there.

Never been to IRP but been thinking about it. This is going to be on the road course right? (Didn't they do some IT races on the oval?)

i haven't touched the car (ITA #87) since parking it at end of last year. But I DO have a new set of rains mounted http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/biggrin.gif

Hey Jon, youre still fighting the Head? this a new head or did you rework the one from last year?
Travis said he wanted to go, just not sure, Chris is still building his new car.
Would be nice to go for a win, I am just curious to see if the Cell changes my handling any? hoping it doesnt, but who knows, would hate to have to lift going into turn 1, I would lose my edge there

Barry, this is a completely new head redone with 5 angle valve job and done at Butch Smith's shop in Frankfort, KY. Had a pre-detonation problem in Atlanta which caused the gasket to go bad. I've got Crane Cam, lifters and comp valve springs but still can't get it right. I am going to have a little calmer set up with me as well as a new gasket so bring your tools we might be replacing heads Saturday night! Sounds fun doesn't it? I can't think that the cell will change much as far as handling, just make sure that you put a consistant level of fuel in the car until you get a feel for how the car will change then you can actually use the fuel load as a chassis adjustment. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey rlekun, we will be running the road course which is a nice flat fairly easy to run course. We did run some events on the oval several years ago which was kind of fun but everyone was too "scared" to run anything but single file. Never did have any real big shunts except one with some kind of formula car which was pretty tore up. Made me feel like Richard Petty for an hour or so (then I woke up). Come on out and play with us, your rains will always be needed in the spring there.

I really hope on being there. I haven't raced at IRP in three years and would like to go back. It all depends on wether or not I get my new ITA car done - only five more weeks and I think I'll be alright. If it's done and we go, I'm sure my Dad will be there running in ITC as well.

If we go it would be split in my car. Still working on the Chris machine. And your edge was turn 2. I wasn't lifting in 1 either but 2 I was out way earlier than you were. That was a great race!

It really shows how much of a momentum track that really is. It is a pretty fun track, and when it rains we have 400hp monsters that can spin 5th gear to add even more fun.

Yup, that would be me. I had an absolute blast running with you and the two TR8's towards the front of the ITS field! Not too shabby for the cars first ever weekend out. I just started the engine the previous Monday, painted it on Tuesday, and put the vinyl on 10pm Friday night. I hope you guys appreciated my quietness and environment awareness with my stock header, cat, & b-pipe - haha. Started fitting the new trick exhaust today.

I was in TR8 convt. this was the first weekend for it. just put the numbers on thurday night. I put the wrong rearend in and could only use 4th and 5th. I was redline in 5th at the start finish line. I wish i didnt have to wait a year to run thear again. I hope the TR8s didnt hurt you too much in the corners, but it was a good time this weekend

No, you guys weren't "hurting" me. I thought it was a lot of fun and a great challenge to figure out how to make a pass and keep it against the engines in those things. Damn, you guys could seriously walk away from me down the front straight. You saw Sunday's start - you guys whooped me at the greeen flag, haha.

I was hurting quite a bit in the corners for sure. http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

Going from a 1:53.xxx Qual time to being held up for 57's was a bit fustrating, but it was a learning experience none the less.

I commend you Kevin for a quick car. I had a little bit of HP but you were flying in the corners, especially between 1-3. Hope to see you again on track. It was a blast to race with someone I can trust not to hit me. http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

Haha - yea, it's nice, isn't it?

Sunday I did tap the hardtop TR8 very lightly square on the bumper between turns 3 and 4 and got a finger wave from the driver. Oops!

hey Paul, you said that the TR8s were holding you up in the race, and you qualified quicker. it is a race, make a pass for position. this is not a lapping club where you get a point by.

I understood the racing aspect of the situation. When you qualify with a 53 and your race lap times were in the 57's, by defenition I was being held up. I'll leave it at that, and maybe next time I will figure a way to get by a higher HP , lower handling car.

i checked the race results, and both TR8s ran a quicker lap times than you, (both days). thats part of racing, cars have different advantages and drawbacks. however, we have a right to hold our position in a race, as long as there is now blocking. just because you qualified higher does not garantee you will finish in that order. I can't speak for the other TR8, but I know I never blocked you.

I certainly agree with what you are saying Andy.

I have yet been given a clear defenition of blocking.

I just wish your father would not have said "the inside line is the fastest way around this track, I wasn't blocking you" after the race.

Ask any professional race car driver in the world if the inside line is the fastest around any race track. I highly doubt any one would say yes to that.

I don't mind being beaten by someone, I just would like to be acknowlegded for a good effort.

Pauly D

P.S. You never had the chance to block me because I was trying to get by your pops http://Forum.ImprovedTouring.com/it/smile.gif

trd77

you did have a good effort, you were much faster on sunday than saturday.
As for a defiinition of blocking: I look at like this, you may disagree, the lead car has the right to "a line" he may not make a second move or alter his line to hinder someone progress. I also believe that this would mean coming down on someone in the corner to stop his advancement. while i agree that the inside line is not always the fastest line, the lead drive has that right to run that line. thats why you will hear that there is a race line and a fast line. now I can't say about sunday, but I know how my dad races, and my bet is that he did not make a second move or changed his line to hinder your progress. I also know that if you beat him to a corner or line that he would give up the line.
that being said, I know my dad is going to drive inside to hold postion in the race. I saw twice this past weekend he gave the corner to the winner. i think that the different cars and their strengths are what make I.T. racing great. we may have great torque, but our braking hurts us and the opposite is true for you. thats why we race to have that type of challenge.

Sounds reasonable enough. Thanks for the explanation. I guess I will see you guys next year.

I thought everyone raced pretty cleanly. Yes, your Dad does seem to enjoy the inside quite often but hey, it's his choice to protect (do not read BLOCK) his spot and he was at least very consistent in doing so. He did squeeze me off on two occasions but it really wasn't that big of a deal. Personally, I loved it. It was nice to race in very close proximity to someone and be confident in their consistency to not take both of us out.

It just made one hell of a challenge for me to get around him and I did where I knew I could. I knew I'd have to pass around the outside of a corner and early on in a lap so I could pull away some before the front straight where I could get caught again. Either that, or wait for him to make a mistake and after hounding him for laps, I knew that wasn't going to happen. Kudo's for some good, safe, close racing to all of you guys.
